Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I have a V8 limited and I am having the same problems with the transmission that the OP listed. This is my third GC & I'm really sorry I traded in my last one for this 2014. Nothing but problems.

Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I have about 3000 miles on it now. I had a 2003 & 2007 GC before this with no problems.

Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I believe the U.S built 8 speed is not having any mechanical problems. It would seem to be a solid piece of equipment. The problem seems to be the software that controls the shift patterns. I'm sure the latest update won't be the last. Personally, I'm not having a problem with mine. Others are, and Chrysler is trying to rectify that with software updates. It's a new unit, and has some bugs, but has there been a rash of broken trannys? Anyone need a tow truck because their gears went rolling down the road? I'm thinking they need some time to work on this, and they are working on it. Early adopters need to have a little patience.

Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I'm still in love with my (August Built) Limited.

Transmission is still frustrating, but even if not fixed I could live with it (mostly by just taking it out of Eco mode).

Mine never clunked or banged into gear. It just does the "Turbo Lag Feel" thing which causes driver to push gas pedal too much and then it down shifts to far. And sometimes likes to stay in that low gear too long.

jacko15,
Do you work for Chrysler?? or are you sure you're not the service manager at my stealership?? They even had the nerve to tell me, "I tell my customers not to buy new model year vehicles, b/c they should wait until the bugs are worked out first." Glad to hear chrysler employees won't even stand by their products.
I understand a few "bugs" here and there, but this transmission thing is, in my opinion, far larger than some minor annoyance, or what the stealership calls "normal operation." My friends/family who are normally totally oblivious to car-related issues always comment on the rough shifting when in my GC. For god sakes, even my 2-year old notices it!! Patience will only take you to the end of your warranty, then you're on your own and SOL.

I have the 2014 V8 5.7L also and I was frustrated with the transmission the first few thousand miles the V8 8 spd does not have near the reports of problems as the v6 but still some do have issues with them like you and I. The biggest issue I had was the stumbling/shuddering in the 1-2 and 2-3 gears. Between the battery cable reset, a few short runs in the low creeper gear and breaking it in a few thousand more miles I can say mine has now reached normal. yes you should not have to stand on your head and do three back flips and wait 5000 miles for your trans to shift properly but give it a try. battery cable reset, put it in low for a few short dives up the street and back and put a few thousand more miles on it. I am at 6000 miles now and all is well but I do sympathize with you the first couple thousand miles were not good and I was worried it would always be like that but it did get better. hope that helps.

People that work for dealers are not Chrysler employees.

You mean rough shifting?

I believe him. Plenty of similar complaints.

Not sure if all Transmission problems are Software. Or if the earlier bad software may have caused mechanical problems.

And some folks say it's still not fixed after the latest flash.

Mine ran great for a week. Probably while it's in adapting mode.

Who knows what state the summit was in you test drove. Was it just flashed, was the battery recently disconnected, when was it built. Who knows.

There are times mine seems just fine. Never as bad as OP, but earlier built models frequently describe hard shifting.

The learning mode is ongoing. It doesn't turn off after a certain amount of time or miles.
