Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee
I feel your pain.
I ordered a 2012 Ford Explorer Limited late in 2011, waited 8 weeks for it. Was happy when I got it, but a lot of little things started to go south. It was underpowered, had "buttons" for controls that didn't push (were touch sensitive), and wouldn't work with gloves on. Third row seats had controls in the back - and if any cargo slid over and touched them they would just start folding no matter what was back there. And don't even get me started on "My Ford Touch" (5 software upgrades). A lot of "mole-hills" grew into a mountain. I started to hate the vehicle, and everytime I got into it I thought - P.O.S.
If these problems keep grating on you, and the dealer is unable to fix it - maybe you should cut your losses. I reached the "point of no return" with the Ford, and traded it in. Many people cannot afford to take the financial hit on a vehicle they don't like, and are stuck with it. For me, life is too short to live with something so expensive, that you spend so much time in, and it just pisses you off.
Maybe my standards have been lowered by the Ford, but I am VERY happy with my 14 Summit V8. Everything just "works" (UConnect is light years ahead of the Ford software). Tranny shifts smooth as butter and acceleration is effortless with the Hemi. I am not a fan of eco mode, but it is certainly tolerable. The only real complaint I have at all is the "Throttle Lag" from a dead stop; and that too is tolerable because it is only noticeable when you really need to 'step on it'.
Maybe it is just the "luck of the draw", and you got an UN-lucky vehicle. I know that I won't buy another Ford. Either way I hope you have better luck in whatever decision you decide to make.
