I was going to work doing 70 on highway, and before I can even notice sudden braking in my lane ahead of me (I was maintaining 1/6 mile or so distance) The audio went on mute, BRAKE! appeared on DIC and heard a loud grinding noise while the jeep braked. Then, it let it go for about half a second and heard the brake grind noise again. I was about 10 inches or so from the car in front of me when it stopped. It shook me good, but I was impressed how it handled. While it was happening I was more focusing on the car coming behind me and just managed to brake in time too.

This experience is different than my 2015 Accord, which has Forward Collision warning only and it used to go 3-4 times a week on the same route, usually when i am speeding /getting close or some cut me off... and this never happened with GC, so much so, I was pretty sure that this Jeeps system is broken and was planning on getting it checked next time at the dealer. Now I am believer and this one incident paid for the Advanced Technology Package.

Just thought of sharing it with someone on the edge for buying the Jeep with this package. Though, the radar sits pretty low on front bumper and no way can
handle off-road.

It also costs a lot to have it aligned. After I was rear ended last year I kept getting odd messages popping up saying acc/fcw limited then it would vanish. This was happening more and more so I took it to the dealer thinking it might be something under warranty. Nope , they said it was out of alignment and wanted 450 parts and labour to realign it. So I called FAC and got them involved and they said same thing as it was from a collision it was not warranty and to talk to my insurance about it. So insurance covered the cost of getting it realigned , no more messages pop up , and they also fixed my rear view mirror that was always falling off the part that glues to the windshield.Very annoying while driving to have the mirror pop off and swing inches from your face.

Good to know. Somwhat similar experience - My Audi A6 had adaptive HID headlamps and after fender bender, it won't focus. Geico shop had to make an appointment with Audi certified technician from Audi dealership to come with special tools to align it.

Odds are you will cause mis alignment of the system before you do any major damage unless you hit it head on. Having the system set again is not cheap , I just had mine done , due to being rear ended and the cost was 450 canadian. A good bump could do it as it has 3 or 4 little bolts holding the sensor on the front end.

I've had FCW give the audible warning a few times, but it has only kicked in the brakes once as I was going through a crosswalk and it apparently detected a sign in the center of the road. Definitely caught me off guard, especially with the very distinct grinding feeling in the brakes. I've used ABS on my Jeep before, and it feels nothing like the braking did with FCW. I was impressed with just how much braking power it will apply; I had an Infiniti QX56 with active braking and it paled in comparison for overall automatic stopping power, but it was also kinda fun because it would just bring the vehicle to steady stop vs. the Jeep that seems to wait until the last second to do anything.
