FCW Sensor Location

I picked up mail at the Post Office yesterday and placed it on the dash directly in front of the steering wheel. I'm not aware of any sensors in that location. While driving home on a somewhat winding road the FCW message "Brake" came up on the EVIC and a warning tone sounded. This happened twice in succession. I removed the mail from the dash and the problem went away. I thought the sensor was on the front of the vehicle.

Re: FCW Sensor Location

A new/different route? On winding roads, mine will warn me of the trees that are thinking about jumping out in front of me.

That would annoy the hell out of me. I am thinking about ordering a 2012 with ACC package. I hope it is defeatable.

Only happened to me once in a month on a very twisty road.

Re: FCW Sensor Location

There is a high and low sensitivity setting. For me, the rare nuisance alarms only occur on the high sensitivity setting. You can also turn FCW off.

That's what I thought. It's coincidental that this only happened with objects on the dash. I've been down this section of road many times and never had a problem before. I'll have to experiment a little.

JohnCaravello, don't be put off by this. The ACC is outstanding, as is the Blind Spot Warning.

It should be installed behind the bumper fascia. It is a rectangular box, about 3x4x1.

Re: FCW Sensor Location

That happened to me before on my WK with the smart beam headlights. I mounted a TXTag right in the middle top of my windshield to get it out of my view (it's just a small RFID sticker) Then I started noticing that my brights kept coming on into incoming traffic and blinding people. I Started to think that my system was screwed up until I realized a week later than it was actually user error. Those systems and cameras can be pretty touchy.

Re: FCW Sensor Location

It happened again today in the exact same place. This time there was nothing on the dash. I was driving a little faster than usual and the road takes a sharp bend to the left with a small building near the road edge. I'm sure that is what set off the FCW, so it's no longer a concern. I hope that will be my biggest problem because I'm really enjoying this Jeep.
