Fender Trim (Summit) lifting

I noticed this the other day. Is this something the dealer should/could take care of or should I just fix it myself? If the latter, how to do so and what product(s) do I need? Thank you!

Can you see if the clip broke? That would be my assumption. Easy fix, but I would make the dealer do it.

Its two sided tape believe it or not, take it back to the dealer and make them fix it. think how well those are going to hold up over the years lol

Re: Fender Trim (Summit) lifting

I doubt there's any clips. It looks like the double-sided tape is coming loose. I would have the dealer take care of it if you are under warranty.

Re: Fender Trim (Summit) lifting

So the Summit (more expensive) has two-sided tape, whereas the cheaper models (my Limited) have actual clips? That's quite odd...wtf

Well, they can't ALL have clips now, can they?

one of mine is lifting a little also what i am more concerned about is like year 4 out of warranty and the two sided tape starts falling off on all of them. how long do you think two sided tape is going to last in the elements what moron thought that one up. im sure they did enough testing to make sure most would last 3/36 after that its our nickel.

Both of my front corners are lifting. You can clearly c that the adhesive "tape" is not holding. IMHO, the pieces were not formed with enough curvature so too much tension is placed on the front corner and liftage ocurrs.

Had my rig in for a list of small things and this was one of them. The body shop guy convinced me that they cannot be lifted without cracking the paint or causing the clear to separate and/or making the lifting worse over time from the removal. Also, these are unpainted as a part so I have two options. Let it get worse, which it will or let them replace/paint match my deep cherry metallic.... Hrmmff.

That is a load of BS they told you. flow some goof off or other solvent down on that two sided tape and it will dissolve just like any tape of that kind. They are just trying to scare you because they don't want to do it, there is no need to paint anything. the idea of putting exterior parts on like that with tape is just asinine it is just not going to last long term or even just a few years. I hear ya on the caution but these guys know their chit. Actually today's adhesive tapes are wickedly powerful if the correct one is used in the correct application although i dont agree with the method. It's just one of those tough visible things to fix on the high tensioned edge of a piece of trim.

It is clear that the adhesive held but the foam middle layer separated. Wrong tape for application, should have been a more dense foam core.

Well they may know their stuff; but they STILL LIED TO YOU!

Owners of the WK2 SRT encounter this problem often. And their Jeep Dealerships have always been able to reapply this 2-sided tape & fix this issue. Do a search on the SRT form for more info.
