They share some basic architecture and are built on the same line, but have more differences than similarities.
The Ferrari has a flat-plane crank for big RPM and it's distinctive sound, the Maser has a more traditional counter crank.
If it does actually go ahead, I have grave doubts of the current Maserati engine turning the JGC platform into a performance SUV, it will struggle with the weight. It's an engine designed for lighter sports orientated vehicles, not a 4800ld SUV.
Even in the Quatrroporte sedan it's no awesome performer.
Maybe they have another engine in the pipeline? A pair of turbo could sort the problem out.
