Re: Ferrari Powered WK2

Since the launch of the GranTurismo. All Maser engines are based on Ferrari architecture.

Actually the Cambicorsa was the first with a ferrari based engine, followed by the quattroport.

Re: Ferrari Powered WK2

They share some basic architecture and are built on the same line, but have more differences than similarities.
The Ferrari has a flat-plane crank for big RPM and it's distinctive sound, the Maser has a more traditional counter crank.

If it does actually go ahead, I have grave doubts of the current Maserati engine turning the JGC platform into a performance SUV, it will struggle with the weight. It's an engine designed for lighter sports orientated vehicles, not a 4800ld SUV.
Even in the Quatrroporte sedan it's no awesome performer.

Maybe they have another engine in the pipeline? A pair of turbo could sort the problem out.

Re: Ferrari Powered WK2

Yeah not to mention its torque figure is less than the 5.7. I agree on the turbos being the most likely thing...they used turbos on the original cambiocorsa and that seems to be a dominant trend among automakers these days.

Re: Ferrari Powered WK2

A ferrari powered GC would have an ilustrous precedent. Bill Harrah, collector of all things automotive, had two classic wagoneers converted to ferrari V12 power. He called the result a 'Jerrari'. The second one (see link below for pictures) still keeps the V12

http://www.trombinoscar.com/willys/jeep7701.html

The first wagoneer got a ferrari front clip as well; unfortunately it has been converted back to v8 power

Re: Ferrari Powered WK2

The front end conversion reminds me of another, although perhaps less tasteful conversion.

The Rangstang!...'scuse me while I vomit.
