Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

I'm new to ownership, but so far I call it "the Jeep." Simple, easy, and doesn't sound ostentatious.

Point of order here - They were Jeeps long before they were SUVs!

SUV is a term made up by Ford or GM because they couldn't call theirs Jeeps!

It's the most awarded SUV ever, so.......it's a SUV.

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

I have an odd habit of naming my vehicles. My last Bimmer was "Hans". My new JGC is "Tank". I talk to them when I am doing detailing.

Note to self: Get more meds.

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

Right now it's called "the new rig." I would classify it as an SUV though, as Eric67 pointed out.

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

I name it " The big jeep". My wife already has " The Jeep", an 03 Liberty.

I just stumbled across this recently as I was brushing up on my Jeep history. According to the Wikipedia entry for Jeep Cherokee (SJ)
The term "Sport Utility" appears for the first time in the 1974 Cherokee sales brochure.

Me, I'm using The Jeep. Though in my mind its a wagon(eer).

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

We call ours "The Jeep".

I have three JGCs in the driveway now, so it can be a little ambiguous.

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

Jeep,

I have a personal hatred for people who call their 4WDs or SUVs 'trucks' or 'rigs' i think they are wankers
I have a mate who calls his 4WD a 'truck' and i call him a **** every time.

A truck is a semi trailer etc, not a big car.

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

Its a jeep.... Definately not a truck because then it would have truck tags..... Suvs are considered to be station wagons by many state dmvs

Re: Fill me in on the proper Jeep terminology.

I just call it "The Jeep"

It's hard to really give it a term since it seems to straddle the line between crossover and SUV with the best of both. Ride and comfort of a crossover plus the towing capacity and durability of a BOF SUV.
