Finally did it! Picking up my new Overland monday. Quick question.

After well over a year of drooling over the new Overland's im finally buying one. Long time back I actually ordered a 2011 Overland V8, but eventually cancelled that order. This time I was ready to pull the trigger and I had the same dealership find me the exact one I wanted. Mineral Gray with Saddle, Pano roof, and adaptive cruise. This time I went with the V6 and I think I will be happy I did. As much as I love more power, with fuel prices, and the overall cheaper V6 and 87 octane I think this was the way to go, and not to mention resale value down the road since fuel prices only go up.
Anyway, my question is since this was a dealership trade and not a special order I did not have a chance to tell the dealership to not drill holes in the front bumper for the plate bracket. Unfortunate;y the original dealership already mounted the plate using not 2 screws, but yes all 4!! Errrrr! Its not a huuuuuge deal to me, but I never run front plates on my cars and I would have preferred this one without as well. So what are my options? Is there a way to cover up the holes so that it looks ok without a front plate, or at this point with 4 drilled holes is my only option to basically use a front plate? Doing body work and having the front bumper repainted is not an option.

Here a couple pictures of the Jeep from the other day as it waits for me at the dealership. (sorry for poor quality the sunlight made good pics with my iPhone 4 difficult).

Tough call. It happened to me once. It bugged me to have the plate on there, but I forgot to specify "no plate" in all the excitement. I got over it. Everything else was exactly as I wanted.

Great color/combo. My favorite. Congrats.

Re: Finally did it! Picking up my new Overland monday. Quick question.

If the drilled holes don't have raised edges, you could try filling them with small black or gray plastic hole plug or perhaps even gray caulk filler. You could try a few color coated screws. May not be as noticeable to the casual observer as a plate, but you'll see them. I've had good luck with plastic hole plugs, but on darker vehicles. They are available in a number of different sizes, often in the help isle of autozone or advanced auto.

Man, that sucks! I found the exact WK2 I wanted at my local dealership, but they put front plate holders on ALL of their vehicles so they can put on a dealership advertisement plate (not sure why somebody would be cool with free advertising after giving them your money). Because of this I didn't buy my GC from them, I went to another town.

But I'd find hole plugs of some sort... or you could have the dealer take off the plate holder and see what the holes look like. If they used self-tapping screws the holes MIGHT not be that noticeable.

But if your state doesn't require both plates, why in the world would they attach the front plate holder?!

Well my state does require two plates, but im way out in the suburbs of Chicago and have never once been hassled for having no front plate. Even in a state that requires front plates I dont know why a dealership would do that unless they are required by law or something goofy like that. Oh well, like I said im not mad about it, but figured I would ask you guys. I will look into the small hole caps and see what happens.

Thanks,
James

Re: Finally did it! Picking up my new Overland monday. Quick question.

Mine was mounted right below the crease in the bumper. It looks like thats the way it should be. I like that the body line on the bumper is not covered up. BTW, nice looking WK!! You will be very happy with the V6. I had the same reasoning as you going that way,

That's too bad yours is drilled already in the front - I got mine nice and clean from Field's Jeep in North Chicago.

Good choice in color

Re: Finally did it! Picking up my new Overland monday. Quick question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't I seen two small holes or "indents" where the front plate screws are supposed to mount?

I told my dealer no front plate as well, however those two holes are still there. I suspect these are put in the front bumper from the factory, and NOT at the dealership, no?

Yes that is correct, even without holes drilled in the bumper there are two dimples in the bumper which is where the screws for the plate bracket are to be installed.
