My first new car purchase was a Mitsubishi Eclipse. I had it a year before I noticed those. Needless to say I always look for them now.

Flipper glass --- we all miss it! The window in the lift gate would open up via hinges at the top, hence flip open. It was convenient for getting smaller things in and out of the cargo area especially for things that would roll out if you opened up the lift gate. Also VERY handy for long items that could stick out through the window and still keep the lift gate closed. Also the opening up just the flipper glass was handy when parking in garages that didn't have room to open the lift gate (height and depth issues). It sure was a nice feature when you needed it... I lost my flipper glass when I went from the 2011 (had flipper glass) to the 2014 (feature cancelled). Argh.

It took me a while to figure out how to open the flipper glass. I knew it was there, but just never looked hard enough.

I can't believe they dropped it from the newer year models.

Thanks! That would be nice to have. I'm very careful with my key FOB in the garage. If I accidently hit the hatch remote it would hit the top of my garage door. I'm sure this has happened to several people. I've never tried to interrupt the cycle by pressing the FOB again, or by pressing the black button inside, assuming I could get to it fast enough. I've tried to remote start it with the hatch open in the driveway. It won't.

At my previous house I put a piece of that grey round 1" plumbing insulation on the garage door for the hatch to hit if it happened to open.

You can just put manual downward pressure on the liftgate to stop it fully opening (if you are near enough).

BTW, one of the liftgate features (if it is a feature) is you can always just manually close the liftgate. The mechanism is built to allow manual operation.

I have been using pool noodles. Cut a slit lenghtwise with a sharp knife.

Re: Finding features years after

You can stop and reverse the lift gate using the remote while it is opening or closing - handy if you accidentally press to open it and realize you shouldn't have for one reason or another.

Thanks, that's good to know. As I said, I'm real careful if I remote start in the garage with the key FOB, because both the door and the remote start require you to push the button twice. So I always make sure I have my glasses on before I do it.

Yep, it's noted in the most unread book in the world. The vehicles owners manual.
