Finding features years after

I've had my Jeep since November 2011 and I've used the navigation (RHR) all these years without a problem. However, lately for my new job I've been traveling a lot and using the navigation quite a bit. While driving to some locations I wanted to know how far I was to the next turn. I used to go into the options and press the "show next turn" to see how far I was. Then playing around I found that if I changed my display from Turn List to Turn by Turn I can see how far the turn ahead was and it shows the display of the exit when the time comes. Sigh. All these years I could have been using it.

Then today, I was sitting at a light and decided to get to a destination, but before pressing "go" I pressed Option and saw "display alternate routes" on the top. Say what? All this time I thought I only had one choice and that was when I pressed "Go." Sigh. Maybe I should have read the manual in 2011 and I'd know all this. Well, I know now.

Anyone else have an ah-ha moment after having their vehicle for such a long time?

I think we all have discovered things over time. I didn't know I had the ever-popular "flipper glass" for over a year...

Re: Finding features years after

I have a 2014 and was always complaining that there is no room in the space in the storage area in front of the shifter (where the USB,SD card slots are. 1 year later I was cleaning the driver foot well area and decided to look inside that storage area.

Holy crap, there is a shelf in the back of it with more storage room!! Wow. Now I just keep my knife in there with room up front. 😀

I knew about this shelf, but then forgot about it! Rediscovered it this past weekend.

I've been using that flipper glass so often now I really don't know how I would do without it. In fact just a couple weeks ago I picked up the wood that's inside dead cactus (I forget what it's called). I had the rails on top of the roof but the logs were pretty heavy. The person we were getting the cactus from asked if the back window opened and since it did we had them sticking out the back window. That worked out wonderfully. I was going to take a photo of it for this group, but by the time I was about to do it the wood was being unloaded.

Still can't believe that Jeep eliminated the option to open the back window in later models.

Though Jeep may say otherwise, the decision to eliminate the flipper glass from the liftgate was strictly a bean counter decision. Unfortunately some manager approved it. Hope he's been terminated by now and is looking for employment at Yugo.

You're not alone. I'm probably the worst at this. I'm finding out new things all the time. Part of the reason is like you, I'm not real big on sitting and studying manuals. I, "know enough to be dangerous", so to speak. For example, I just found out that I can make a phone call with voice activation. I pressed the little green phone button on the steering wheel and said, "Call Home".... And low and behold, it did!

A big part of the U-Connect 8.4 I haven't even scratched the surface of yet. I'm not real big on sitting in the car with the engine running, and playing with it. And if you mess around while your driving, your ability to have an accident increases 50 fold. So I don't do much with it.

Another big factor is the older you get the less enthusiastic you become about learning all of this stuff. Back in the 80's when VHS came out I was all over it like stink on dog crap. I had an expensive unit, and within hours I had it all connected and knew every feature it had. I was thrilled by all of it. Now, not so much. My TIVO most likely has features I've never messed with, and I've had it for 3 years now. I'm just not the type of person who needs, or has the patience to extract all the good these things have to offer. As you get older simpler is better. And the fact is most all of this stuff is over kill on steroids.

All or most of the features will work in ACC or Run with the engine off.
