Re: fire extinguisher placement

Just a thought but I don't care where the extinguisher is or how its mounted, after a 31 G accident your aren't going to do jack with it. Still the point is well taken. My actual reason for posting was just a tidbit for the OP, you didn't mention TP in your list of emergency goodies. A person should never be caught without TP to fall back on in an emergency situation...

Re: fire extinguisher placement

For vehicles you really should purchase a fire extinguisher and mounting bracket made for mounting in a vehicle. Yeah they cost a little more or a lot more depending on what is used to fight the fire. The regular run of the mill stuff that puts out the fire can cause serious and corrosive damage to electronics and to hard parts in the engine. I know this from experience since the fire bottles corner workers use contain the normal every day fire suppression agent. Halon or something similar although more expensive doesn't cause corrosion or other issues.

Good points, but from my perspective I just want something to carry in the Jeep that will put out a fire in my vehicle (or any other one I might come across in my travels) before it ignites the fuel tank. If it gets to the point that I have to pull and use a fire extinguisher on a vehicle I don't care about what electronics the extinguishing agent may harm - since they've been on fire anyway. I'll leave it up to insurance to repair or replace the vehicle as necessary.

Agreed. but TBH, it its my vehicle, i will make sure all of the family is out first, then let it burn (once a car is on fire, is it even possible to get the smell out and salvage it). It is mostly used for the "other guy" scenario.

In actuality, the reason I first put one in my car (dating back a long time ago), was bc of a fire pit that got out of control and one of the guys just walked to his car and put it out like a boss. As I have gotten older, there have been a few instances where I could have helped a lot more if I had one.
