When I go to a tire shop to change tires I always point out in detail how perfect everything is, I ask if they do any damage will they repair back to perfect or replace, if they say no I say bye. They know they are on the hook and usually don't like it.

Re: Firestone scratched all 4 wheels!!!!

I had a similar problem some years ago with a Mazda and tire dealer. I now only use the Jeep dealer to buy tires.

Please keep us updated on this, I'm interested to know how the tire shop handles this.

Re: Firestone scratched all 4 wheels!!!!

It is actually happened to me before on my other car and they are refused to admit it. Just avoid them, it is not right place to do anything.

Re: Firestone scratched all 4 wheels!!!!

Well. Good news. After sleeping poorly the last two night, imagening the arguements I would have with the manager, he was very nice. He appologized, said he would look into the technician that did the work, and will send the wheels to be repaired, or replaced if the scratches are too deep. Mistakes happen. I'm just glad that they are willing to make it right.

That's why I ONLY use 1 shop locally. I have been using them for 6 years and know the manager and lead techs very well. In fact, when they were doing the first change of tires (find my thread about Yokohama Parada's) the tech called me over to point out scratches on the inside of the lug nut pocket where the dealer's air gun had scratched the surface (they did a rebalance before I decided the Goodyears had to go). It was virtually undetectable but he wanted me to know it was there BEFORE he started his work, they are that cautious with me and a few Porsche friends I have sent there.

It's all about finding that one store that cares about what they do. They are out there but it takes some digging to find them.

There are a few simple rules I try to follow.
  • NEVER leave the car and come back later.
  • ALWAYS make sure the mechanics see you and know you're watching them work on YOUR vehicle.
  • Take the time to look over the work with the mechanic and don't be shy about letting them know something isn't up to spec OR tipping them $10 or $20 for a job well done, You would be surprised how long they will remember you down the road. Think about it, you just had someone working on $1000 each rims (in the case of my Porsche). A $20 tip is CHEAP insurance.

Re: Firestone scratched all 4 wheels!!!!

rdalcanto - what ended up happening with this?

i had the exact same situation happen last week... down to them putting on the destination at's. i have stopped by the store and called twice each time being told they are trying to reach their wheel guy, blah blah.

just curious what they ended up doing and what you had to do to get it done.

thanks
