First gas mileage check

I took a little trip. Mostly on country back roads and a little bit of town driving and filled up this morning and checked my mileage. 26.88 mpg. I'm very happy with that. I have the 2015 GC Laredo with V-6 engine. The dashboard trip estimator was showing 27.3

Yes, that is very good. What tire pressure you using? I can't get that kind of MPG without putting a few extra pounds in.

Do you have a 4X2 or 4X4? Also, what would you say your average speed on the highway was?

Yeah was wondering that also. I can barely break 20 mpg. on my 4x4. I bet he has a 4x2.

Re: First gas mileage check

I just took delivery of a 2015 Summit 4X4 last week. I have about 800 miles on it and am averaging about 20MPG combined city/highway. So far I have seen 23-24 MPG on my (short) highway runs at ~60-70MPH avg. Looking forward to a longer trip to see what it will do but am optimistic that I will see something similar to the rated economy (24MPG HWY). I am running the recommended 36PSI and have a 3.6 Pentastar.

It's a 4X2. I was traveling some back roads and went through a couple of small towns. My highway speeds were around 55-60mph. The whole trip was approx 200 miles.

55-60 MPH is really optimal for the best mileage. I have found that a 5MPH avg increase in speed can have a large impact on MPG. Also, elevation change from your starting point to your ending point can also have a big impact.

On a couple of recent 200+ mile trips in my 4x4 JGC Limited V6, I was averaging 24MPG between highway and in town, running around 75 on a hilly interstate (lots of hills around here) and lots of stop and go in town.

Normally, in town, I average 14-16 in stop and go traffic, though traffic jams tend to drop that down to 11-12.

Rural highways seem to average 25-28.

This is with less than 1000 miles on the ticker.

I will say, though, once I get to a stable speed where I'm not going to be up and down more than a few mph, I lock it manually into whatever the optimal gear is so it won't downshift when I don't really need it to. The automatic seems to think I need 4000RPM every time I press on the gas pedal, even in Eco mode (which I suspect does nothing eco at all).

Re: First gas mileage check

I drive like an old man because I AM an old man. My days of hot rodding, showing off and driving like a maniac have come and gone. (I did plenty of it too) Nowadays, I'm more concerned with just taking care of my ride. Getting good gas mileage and not having to replace broken parts is a good thing.
