First impressions of 2016 3.6L Pentastar

Test drove a 2016 3.6L today.
Engine seems shifting smoother and better mated to the transmission.vs my 2015 diesel.

No lack of power at all, zippy enough, quicker pickup than a stock diesel for sure.

ESS never switched on as it's hot up here today (31c) and engine kept running when stopped.

The U connect has more customization and seems much faster.Like the fact i could set my tire pressure to PSI but maintain KM on the speedo(not possible previously)

Also the steering wheel restistance setting an option in U connect, due to full electric power steering

HK Sound, solid as ever on 2016

Quick fuel economy check, excellent for this size car, but as expected about 10-15% more butn than the diesel.

Noise....pretty dam quiet!

The cluster LCD Layout and images are slightly different from previous years.

You hit the nail on the head. Most people here say the Pentastar is inadequate, slow or not suited "for a vehicle this size," when the reality is - it is very much so. There's nothing wrong with the Pentastar, performance wise. And it's more than awesome that Chrysler offers the Hemi and EcoDiesel as well. Definitely a better engine setup than the 3.6 V6s offered by Furd and GM (that only offer 6 gears, not 8).

I would rather have their six gear tranny as opposed to mine and others eight gears that Chrysler can't seem to work properly.

Our Acadia had a transmission replacement at 10k miles... Chrysler isn't the only one with problems.

I just got a 2016 w/V6. It's ok but I really REALLY miss the HEMI from my 2011. There's just nothing like a Hemi.

For about 5000 cars coming off the line weekly, don't think there's a pandemic of issues with any transmission on the WK2's....

My 8 speed diesel shifts good, but 8 speed on the Pentastar shifts smoother. it's problably more thought out software more than anything.

Yet, my 2015 Pentastar tranny, that was supposed to have all bugs worked out continues to have harsh shifts, even after many attempts from the dealer to correct the problem.

How that managed to be designed and approved to work that way certainly blows my mind.

Amen!! Love the concept (and use it more often than not) but think implementation and lack of any timing control was poorly executed😢

I don't think Ford has a 3.6 V6, but they certainly do have a 3.5L V6 that is twin turbocharged, and the numbers are really great compared to the V6 in the Jeep. I have been reading up a lot on other choices recently due to Jeep's decision to keep the antiquated radio in MY17 and have been pretty surprised by what I found out there.

The jeep's V6 is rated at 295HP and 260 lb/ft of torque as opposed to the 365HP and 350 lb/ft torque on the Ford Explorer V6. That is close to the performance of the V8 (a little more HP, but less torque), although the Ford is also slightly lighter. It is hard to compare exact 0-60 times, but it generally appears the Ford's V6 is over a second faster to 60 than Jeep's. That definitely surprised me. I do wish they had an 8-speed and am disappointed that it only has six, so that is a valid point - but it sure doesn't seem to affect the pick-up.

Yet take them turbos off and it won't compare to the pentastar. I think there is only like two other N/A American v6's that out power the pentastar. That's GM's 3.6 @ 330 hp and Ford's 3.7 that matches the 305hp of the pantastar in the challenger
