Re: First Jeep Buying experience

I bought the Maxcare service contract.

I plan on keeping the Jeep for at least 10 years. There was a lot of new technology that Jeep put into the 2014 models with no track record. One major repair or electronics problem and it will end up paying for itself. Plus, it's valid at any Jeep dealer for service.

I agree that most service contracts tend to be a waste of money simply because of the conditions, exclusions, etc. My take on the Chrysler service contract is that it is one of the more comprehensive. Plus Chrysler isn't going out of business any time soon.

Got it thanks, basically no difference in the service provided. Having said that I wonder if there is a clause somewhere where the dealer can choose to use aftermarket vs original parts for repair.

This makes a lot of sense. I understand that parts are covered under normal use as well....Does that mean normal wear and tear is covered (ie. if the AC compressor goes at 100k or the shocks go at 100k)?

if so, I'm sure if you wanted to, you can keep the jeep going to way more than 10yrs...

Re: First Jeep Buying experience

You are buying a very expensive and COMPLEX vehicle. Bite the bullet and get the Chrysler Lifetime Max Care Warranty, (no other), and never look back. The total peace of mind it will buy you will be worth every cent you spend.

I seriously doubt that Mopar would be very happy if a dealer service department used non-Mopar parts for work covered under a Mopar service contract... The cost metrics of that just don't work and why would the dealer do that...there's no incentive since Mopar is paying for things.

Re: First Jeep Buying experience

The dealer offered the MaxCare contract to me for $1,400 for 72 months ($0 deductible) at the dealership the other day. Said I have until today to add that warranty into the financing of the car. Ill have a look at Ziegler and see how they compare. Ill have to check on how many miles are in the 72 months too

The MaxCare service contract is very, very comprehensive in what it covers. In a nutshell, it covers everything EXCEPT a few excluded items, such as fluids, wear items like brakes, wipers, tires, etc. The exclusions are clearly spelled out in the contract document you receive after purchase. There is a term limit for the rental/loaner (7 years from date of in-service if I'm not mistaken...I'm not looking at my contract right now) on the lifetime contracts and for the lifetime contract, "lifetime" is when the cost of repair exceeds the current value as determined by the manufacturer. "Lifetime" isn't "forever", in other words...which honestly makes sense.

Got it. Thanks Jim_in_PA, very helpful!

Now all I need is a JGC to buy MaxCare for!

Re: First Jeep Buying experience

Okay, so the guy at the dealership got back to me. Price for MaxCare from my dealer is $1400.00 for 6yrs / 75000 miles. It is a disappearing $100.00 deductible. Which means if the dealership I bought it from does the work it will be $0 if any other dealer does the work it would be $100.00.

Does that sound like a good deal? It is on par with Ziegler's. Ziegler offers 7 years / $75,000 / 0 ded for $1,740. $100 ded would be $1,175

I went through Ziegler's on my 2015 Limited and paid $2,315.00 with a $100.00 deductible. But that is for UNLIMITED mileage and years. So for just $575.00 more you would go from 7 years to forever. Seems well worth it. Especially if you take care of your Jeep, and intend to keep it.

Re: First Jeep Buying experience

If you're going to keep that car for 6-7+years, I also recommend you get a price for the MaxCare Lifetime contract, especially with that nice "disappearing deductible" offer from your dealer and the fact that they are being competitive with one of the best places to buy the contract relative to cost. The Lifetime contract removes the mileage constraints...which is why I bought it for my situation. I blew through the OEM warranty in only two years due to mileage.

Re: First Jeep Buying experience

I would like to think I will keep it for about 7 years. For my situation the 7 years might be ideal as that will most likely be my cut off date with the car. I only kept my last car for 3 years, but I don't expect to be that short with this one. I am 6'6 so it hurt getting in and out of it every day where I don't see that being an issue with this car as much. Plus the family is growing so I need to keep an SUV. I'll have to think about which one suits me best.
