First Month was great....one big question?!

Ok... so... sorry I got the jeep and never posted pictures. Pretty soon after I got the jeep I ended up coming down with pneumonia, and I had to battle it for the better part of three weeks...It was tough for a while, but I am back on the saddle now! I got the back on December 8th, which I think made me one of the first few people with saddle..and definitely with this combo...Overall I really like the Jeep...There are a few things I don't, but overall its a great ride.

Pros:

Handling - I think the jeep does great on road and off..I have had the chance to drive it through some serious snow (I like in the snow belt of NE Ohio)

I think it also handles really well on the highway for an SUV this size. I got the HEMI and it has plenty of power for everything I would do.

Finish - I think as everyone would agree this Jeep is leaps and bounds above the last model...It is more of a luxury car than an off road machine, and I just love driving the dang thing around..haha

Cons...The only con I have is no matter what I put in the sunglasses holder it rattles like crazy...and I always have a pair up there...so I have had to put them in the center console instead..

One big question....How the heck is everyone putting on the front liscense plate (assuming you have one)? I don't want to just screw the thing to the bumper...Worried about scratches...Has anyone tried a universal bracket or anything? I am at a loss as to what to do...I really really dont want to just have this thing sitting on the front of bumper with no protection for the paint....plus it just looks crappy.

Thanks!

Re: First Month was great....one big question?!

Glad to hear you are doing good now! That is one sweet Jeep I bet Inferno and Saddle look pretty slick together.

As for the sunglass holder I dont have my Jeep yet but all I can recommend is maybe getting a couple thin layers of adhesive baked foam padding and add a layer to the top of the sunglass holder and the actual holder itself where the glasses will be resting on. That will also help protect your glasses even more to. This stuff is available in black and would look almost OEM.

As for the front plate I dont know of anyway to add one without drilling the two holes. I personally wont be using a front plate and will be making sure my dealer does not drill the holes into the front bumper. Illinois is a front plate state but they do not enforce it. Either that or I have gotten lucky the last 15 years. I have never once had a front plate installed, never been hassled, and never plan on adding one.

Goodluck and congrats on the Jeep!!!

First, I'm glad you're finally feeling better.
As for the front plates, I have mine screwed directly into the bumper but I do have a clear plastic protector over it. As far as I know. there are no specific brackets made for the WK2.

Here is a photo: I replaced the factory screws, upper screws are self-tapping and the lower ones are nut & bolt, all are stainless steel.

If you screw the plate or the bracket into the bumper it will scratch one way or another. You will never see them unless you move to a state that doesn't require them and you decide to go naked.

You can always use 3M molding tape and stick it onto the bumper. I use to stick euro plate holders on my german cars with it because I didn't want to drill holes.

Re: First Month was great....one big question?!

See this is killing me...In Ohio you will get pulled over without it....So I have to put it on there, but I refuse to have scratches on the bumper...Right now I have a washer behind the plate, but its temporary at best and I need a more permanent solution....One that can stand up to carwashes and such....I may end up trying one of the universal brackets...I dont care to drill into the bumper if something is going to be hiding the holes.....

Welcome!

But, you say you're worried about your plate scratching then you mention car washes!?!?!?!?! If you want it scratched, just head to a car wash!

Not necessarily. Im super anal when it comes to cars and have taken some of my cars through car washes (not my Corvette Z06 obviously), but my daily drivers and have never once experienced a significant scratch or even swirl marks. For someone that likes to detail their cars a car wash will not be an issue. For a person that practically never washes their car let alone details it, I can see where years of car washes will pay its toll on a paint job, but most guys on here wash and wax their cars so I dont think they would be a issue.

Here is the paint on my 50,000 mile Acura TL-S. Been through winters and car washes.

Re: First Month was great....one big question?!

My wife currently has a 2009 TSX which we will be trading in on Friday. The sunglasses holder in the acura does the same thing. It took me about 20 minutes one day to figure out where the rattling was coming from. We were riding together and I looked at her and said "somethings rattling on your side of the car, what kinda of junk do you have in the door?" Then she said "well, there's nothing in the door pocket, and it sounds like it's coming from your side of the car!"

You can also take a piece of neoprene from an inexpensive beer can "hugger" and either glue it in place, or put a piece of adhesive-backed Velcro tape on it so you can move and reposition it as needed. Makes a great rattle-stopper without much space-robbing bulk.

How is there no stock place for a front license plate? It is illegal in my state not to have it...

It's also required here in Maryland and in many states.

The front bumper has a flattened area under a small horizontal ridge with two dimples where screws go. No Mopar bracket is available or even offered at this time as far as I or anyone else can tell.

Re: First Month was great....one big question?!

I'm so glad that you are feeling better! That's a tough illness to kick. As far as a front license plate...PA doesn't require one but I bought mine off the lot and they already drilled a plate holder into the bumper...why? I don't know but I removed it and put a european plate on the front...looks good. As for a way to mount without drilling to withstand car washes....I have never seen one.

As for the sunglass holder...I have a low tech solution that seems to work for me...I just fill it with some tissues and problem solved.
