First week in 14 JGC Overland V8 review

Well had the 14 GC V8 with ATG for about a week now. I bought it at dealership out here in Long Island NY. I was expecting a battle with the sales staff and came prepared. But the salesman I was dealing with was upfront and honest and kept his word . I got the car at a great price I had the Tread Lightly affiliate # so that gave me 1% under invoice off the bat and my negotiating skills got me to 4% under invoice before rebates.(yes I know other people are getting sub 5% under invoice but this really doesn't exist in the NYC area) Jeep also had a $1000 V8 engine rebate, another $750 rebate for just buying an Overland and then another $1000 on a Conquest rebate. I know the great price I got under invoice had to do with the 2015's coming out in August and the fact that the dealer had A LOT! of Overland's and Summits left in stock.

I am way more impressed with this vehicle than I ever though I would be. The Hemi is amazing and even better in sport mode and this is coming from a guy who also owns a 2014 Mustang GT convertible. While obviously the HP doesn't compare to the mustang the Hemi provides more than enough power. I find myself flooring it at any opportunity I can find lol. Transmission is a little rough on the downshift but it seems there is a flash update to smooth out the transmission and will take it in soon for it.

I updated Uconnect via USB myself to the current software with no real problems. Only issue is I cannot use the Pandora App with my Samsung S4 through Uconnect It keeps saying "The Via mobile profile for the current Uconnect user has not been set up. Go to Moparownerconnect.com" even though I already linked my Pandora account through Mopar owner connect. Pandora streams perfect through Bluetooth though. I am a little disappointed with the speakers I expected a lot more sound from a Alpine system. I even checked out the summits Harman Kardon system, while it was better I still wasn't even that impressed with it. I will probably change out all the speakers and amps soon to something better.

Advanced Tech Group another thing I originally was not going to get but am glad I did. For $1700 bucks or so you cant go wrong. I had one false FCW already which was weird because there was no one anywhere near me for miles. The rear cross path saved me once already backing out between two trucks on either side of me. Blind spot monitoring seems to be working well but has had some false positives so far but still works well. ACC with Stop is really cool tried this out today and worked perfectly. If you are on the fence with the ATG group package trust me get it.

Overland Interior is very nicely done, it rivals other high end vehicles. The seats are a little firm but that's the way I like them anyway. Leg Room for me as I am 6'8 260lbs is good. Realistically I can never say I fit in any vehicle perfectly due to my size but this SUV fits me well . Power folding mirrors another great option for the Overland.

I wont go on and on since most of you already know all the good things about the car. But will go directly to the bad, although not the end of the world and not the dealer/manufacturer's fault but more of an act of nature. The day I picked up the Jeep I drove it straight home as I had some things to take care of. I come out of my house 15 minutes later to take a picture to send to a friend and I see about 50 or so Ants crawling all over it. I say to myself ahhh its late spring ants are active and being the Jeep is bright white ants would stick out like a sore thumb on it, so I chalk it up to nature. Next day I notice still a few ants on it nothing crazy but then I check my other cars they have no ants at all on them. Now the red flag goes up. I decided I will look closer when I get home from work. So I start the car and drive off, As I am driving I see an ant crawling on the dashboard I quickly crush it and realize I have a serious problem. Long story Short I get home and investigate, seems while the car was at wherever the dealership stores its unsold vehicles, a colony of sugar ants decided to make a home in my Overland's bottom trim under the door area. So I start banging on the trim and Thousands of them come out scrambling. As my wife looks in disbelief at this swarm I say "better ants than roaches" lol needless to say she wasn't amused at my humor and ran away in disgust. It was at this point I knew I couldn't depend on her under a stressful situation and made the decision I would leave her behind as bait if a Zombie apocalypse does ever happen lmao. Anyway as I am never one to panic I quickly grab from my garage in my opinion the best ant killer on the market "Terro" and place it in the area where all of them are coming from, immediately they swarm to it. One day Later problem solved no more ants. for now at least.

Overall like I said I am very impressed so far with pretty much every aspect of this truck. Although the pics and video don't do the actual amount of ants I saw justice, Check them out anyway.

Re: First week in 14 JGC Overland V8 review

FYI - The transmission does learn after driving for a while. I too noticed when in Sport Mode that the last downshifts were a bit abrupt. But after using Sport Mode some more it has adapted and learned and I no longer get a harsh downshift when braking. Smooth now even in Sport Mode.

I got ants in my 2011 GC after parking it in an airport parking lot for a week. Came back and someone had set a 1/2 full Dairy Queen Blizzard on the ground near my front wheel. Well, let's just say it attracted a ton of ants and some had decided to nest in my GC! These teeny tiny ants just wouldn't go away. I got one of those ant bait trap things and left it in my GC for a week. Problem solved.

Welcome OP to the Garage!

My 2014 Overland has been pretty good so far (compared to my old crappy newer build 2014 Limited). The only flaws have been minor assembly mistakes when it comes to window/door seals, and some exterior & interior parts...all I was able to correct myself. I've also added some Jeeps accessories and performed some mods...check out my signature.

The only things I can't fix so far is my LG smart phone disconnecting (I have to manually "connect" the cell phone every morning when going to work...but not when going home (strange I know). That and there seems to be something loose inside the drivers seat back right at the middle of my shoulder blades. I feel it when I push myself back into the seat at times.

Re: First week in 14 JGC Overland V8 review

Tip for ants... just a tiny bit of pure peppermint oil, available at some health stores, appears to discourage the little buggers and encourage them to live elsewhere.

Unfortunately, it is a bit on the strong smell side, and you do NOT want to get it anywhere near a mucus membrane--worse than cinnamon oil.

Cheer up, it could have been spiders.....
