Fit and Finish Woes?

I took a look at the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit I ordered at the dealership last night. I noticed some part fitment issues.

  • The console door which covers the media inputs and USB ports was misaligned. I saw this was misaligned on the majority of the Grand Cherokees I test drove before placing an order. I was hoping that FCA had fixed this issue, but it would seem they have not.
  • The driver side exhaust tip was very obviously misaligned.
  • The side windows' trim strips were not aligned with one another. I assume this has to do with poor door alignment.
  • The fuel filler door seemed to be installed with a greater gap on top than on the bottom.
  • The paint on the hood latch bar (the part which secures the hood to the hood latch) was flaking off pieces of paint. I think this might be "by design" but it looks ugly.
  • The rocker panel trim pieces were not well aligned.
  • The fender trim was pulling away slightly near the front bumper, but only on the passenger side. I noticed this issue on other Summit models.
I haven't taken delivery of the vehicle yet. I'm waiting to see how many of these issues can be resolved. I'm willing to give FCA a chance, but they have to deliver a product I'm willing to own first.

Good for you for looking out for them before you get the car. Unfortunately, I only noticed mine after reading other people's complaints on here, now I'm always picking up on poor finishing all around my WK2. :( That's my main disappointment with my new Jeep so far.

Good luck with the outcome. Let us know how it goes.

My late build 2014 Overland V6 4x4 had some minor "assembly" issues as well:

1) Passenger side windshield sprayer on hood was not fastened in all the way...one simple push of my finger snapped it in. I can't believe everybody (at the assembly plant & the dealership) missed that one. Clearly a test of the windshield sprayers is not conducted after assembly.

2) Some of the rubber door & window molding was not installed correctly...I was able to fix it myself. All that was involved was pushing some of the loose snap fasteners or trim pieces in all the way.

3) Fuses under the hood seemed loose...pushed them all the way in myself.

4) Some interior trim pieces were not installed correctly...I was able to fix it myself.

Definitely some sloppy assembly work going on at the plant, that and poor quality control. Not suprised though, I experienced some of the very same issues on my earlier 2014 Limited.

This is exactly why I can't give jeep my hard earned money. I was planning on selling my Ford F 150 FX 4 with appearance package and getting an Overland with the 3.0. I went to the dealership last Sunday to take a closer look at my future ride without being pestered and I couldn't believe how poor the fit and finish was on a 54,000 dollar vehicle. The taillights were both crooked , the liftgate was off by a half an inch, and there were several contaminants in the paint job along with a terrible paint run on the hood. I'm sure there were more but it was dirty and I was already too depressed to keep searching. It wasn't just one but all of them had issues. The Durangos looked perfect. What gives?

No real complaints with mine, however, the fit and finish is not quite as good as my CTS-V and Corvette. You might want to pull your front seats all the way forward and check that the carpet fits properly with the console bottom.

Don't think it's too much to ask that Jeep's quality control to be at least as good as other American manufacturers. After all, the top of my Jeep's build sheet says, "QUALITY POLICY: TO BE A WORLD CLASS MANUFACTURING COMPANY."

Still love my Jeep!

Remember that not every GC gets pulled out for QC check, if they did everyone would be waiting an extra 30-60 days for their GC. I'm not defending that they shouldn't watch out for this more but the workers don't really got the time to be looking at other parts then what they are working on (which should be installed correctly).
