Unless of course the parts on the 2013 are made of lead.

LOL, can't see too many parts were required for the flipper glass.

Re: Flipper Glass

the latch, mechanism to unlatch the latch, maybe extra reinforcement and frame for latch, hatch, wiring, connectors and mechanisms? The rear spoiler was different and required extra bolts, supports etc and metal hinges....the metal hinges on the flipper glass probably weighed 2 pounds each. I'm sure there's more.... don't be naive fellas. Its a lot of parts.

Re: Flipper Glass

No way 50 pounds worth, not unless they counted the glass to make the statement true LOL which is highly possible.

Re: Flipper Glass

I use it all the time on my 2011 and on my new 2015 when it arrives it will be missed. This is a great feature and on a 5000+ Lbs SUV 50 pounds is not substantial. The statement "greatly improves" is marketing BS. This was a cost cutting measure pure and simple...

Huge fan of the flipper.. My old 4 runner had auto up down glass and it was a nice feature while driving for airing out the rig post chili dinner..

Re: Flipper Glass

I've had my '15 for less than 5,000 miles and really, really wish it had a flipper.

The decision to remove it was obviously made to increase margins. Any other explanation is marketing spin. I would have paid more to have it.

Re: Flipper Glass

No flipper hardware means less $ on parts for each vehicle... it can add up quickly.
We have it on the 2011 and use it often...

Re: Flipper Glass

I use it so often to overfill my boot. Went camping over the Easter break and man I manage to get heaps in my using that flipper glass. Throw in before it falls back out!

Re: Flipper Glass

Interesting we dont look to have a range rover/ xc90/ wagonner style rear hatch where the bottom portion folds down like a pickup and the remainder hatches up. Frankly I think that could have been a nice feature on the GC. Wonder if the new wagoneer will adopt that.
