Re: Fob Protector

I've been following this thread with amusement... until yesterday when my wife asked me: "Why is the new Jeep's rear liftgate open?". Yup - Jeep was in the garage all day, and I was in the house with the fob in my pocket ... must have hit that button (twice?) somehow.

In 13 years with my ZJ, I never activated the fob accidentally from my pocket (although all it would have done is lock/unlock or panic). Furthermore, I also carry my wife's BMW fob from time to time and have had no such trouble.

I'm thinking that these fobs are poorly designed, since the surface is convex (vs the flat surface of the old fobs.)

Re: Fob Protector

My feeling is that the transmitter on the new fobs are MUCH more powerful than the older models. I'm amazed at just how far I can be from mine when I start it remotely.
Comparing this to just attempting to unlock the doors on my 2005 JGC which wouldn't work unless I was much closer.

For me, this is a good thing because it would be pretty worthless to me if I had to walk all the way to where my Jeep was parked before I could start it remotely.

So, all of these years you "may" have been hitting the buttons but you may have been just too far away to activate anything on the vehicle.

Of course this is just speculation on my part.

Re: Fob Protector

The liftgate erroneously opened on me the other night. I was out shooting pool with FOB in my front pocket. Guess it activated when I leaned over the pool table. Good thing it wasn't raining and I didn't have any cargo.

A lockout switch would be the ideal solution...

a lockout switch would be perfect along with a button to enable/disable alarm.
