The clutch plate designs were consulted on with ZF and they have had some involvement in the programming changes too....

We can agree on the fact the changes may have made the programming a little more complex for sure.

Agreed. :-)

I guess I did make it sound like Chrysler was willy nilly with design changes...collaborative with ZF fo' shizzle!

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

I had the TSB done a few weeks ago and it helped for about 200 miles and now it's back to shifting like crap again. When I accelerate slowly like in a parking lot the shift from 1st to 2nd is exactly like a transmission slipping. It's like it sits there a second or two then violently slams into 2nd causing it to ''lurch'' forward. Not to mention the constant battle I have with the skinny pedal to get the vehicle to actually accelerate normally rather than sitting at 1700rpms fighting me or violently downshift to 6k rpms to bat out hell mode.

870: 682mm x 200mm, 203 lbs

With all the issues, I'd just add the 27lbs. I'm sure the difference in length and diameter would be easily dealt with as well.
Allegedly the 870 may be replaced with a mopar licensed design in the future.

I have a hunch that very very tiny differences in timing in the programming can change the drive feel a lot for the dog clutches, since they are either engaged or not engaged, with no slip.

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

I'm dropping my Jeep off in a couple weeks for some weird noise in the suspension. Sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Either way I'm going to ask them to make sure I have all the latest transmission flashes as it's terrible again right now. After they flashed it last time I'm starting to believe they just reset it as it was great for a couple hundred miles and now it's just as bad as it's ever been. The encouraging news is if they get the programming right I do believe it has the potential to be a good shifting tranny. Right now it feels like a 15 year old truck with a slipping transmission.

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

My question is, if this is an adaptive system that learns stuff, what if the stuff it's learning is crappy and it constantly learns to be crappy?

Well let's say in most situations this doesn't happen and in some that is a god description of the problem

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

I think a lot of the reason you see more issues with the V6 version is they are trying to get the best fuel economy and best performance out of the whole combination. The V8 and Diesel have plenty of torque to keep moving and to accelerate while in the lower rpm's. The V6 however requires a few revs to make power, so your fighting the logic of the trans trying to keep you in a lower gear while you try to accelerate.

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

Agreed. That would also explain the default "on" position of the Eco mode.

Interestingly, my dodge caravan has an Eco button that stays wherever you put it unlike the JGC.

Re: For those of you with an 8 speed on the V6

As I read about how more and more people are having the same transmission issues and as time goes on, I'm getting more frustrated and angry.

Question is: what can we do to solve this issue? I would assume that as more people voice their complaints with Jeep, they will be pressured to fix this for good, no dumb programming resets that anyone can do by disconnecting their battery for 30 minutes. Anyone have ideas or contact info at Jeep to file a complaint?
