For those sonsidering Roof Pod/Garage clearance

So I have seen a few posts in the past of folks trying to reconcile getting a low profile roof ski/cargo pod while being concerned about garage clearance. This was of great concern to me as well and wasn't sure what solutions others may have found. I wanted a low-pro cargo pod but didn't really know what to go with.... I did a lot research on what might be able to work for me and my situation.... Now, I know not all garage door openings are the same, but after much research, I found something that may work for those that want a pod and still park their GC's indoors. My '11 GC LTD has the RR front spacer lift, and some slightly larger tires. Rack & Road was offering 20% off Thule and Yakima cargo pods, so I took some measurements from the top of my Yakima cross bars to the top of my garage door opening and figured that it would a real close shave with the lowest profile Thule or Yakima. Decided to go with the Thule Sonic 633B as it was only 11 inches at its maximum height. I kind of wanted the Yakima pod more, but it was 11.5 inches and didn't want to push it. I really wanted the Inno Low Down Cruiser, at 9.8 inches max, but that was too expensive.
The Thule Sonic clears my garage by just a few millimeters, but it fits! It's very quiet on the highway too.

Re: For those sonsidering Roof Pod/Garage clearance

When they built the original Doral Hotel in the Telluride Mountain Village, the Florda designers didn't know what a Suburban even looked like when they designed the entrance to the underground garage. Ripped the roofs off of at least 8 suburbans before the valets got the memo!

We designed our garages to handle handicap vans so pods are no problems.

Re: For those sonsidering Roof Pod/Garage clearance

I have a 2014 GC Limited and I bought a Thule roof box. My trouble wasn't the height but the length. I was unable to open the tailgate all the way because the fairing ( not sure what its actually called) over the back window hits the box. Does anyone have a suggestion? I need one that can carry skis.
