It's the nature of forums... some people are thin skinned and take offense as to how things are worded. Likewise, some people use a poor choice of words. You'll see that all over this forum, even though it has far less of this going on than you'll find in other forums.

For me personally, I find that the V6 meets all of my needs and I've been very happy with it. If others don't like the V6, that's okay by me. I'm not going to bash anyone for their engine choice, whatever their reason for it... after all, it's their money.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I've got a HEMI and I'm glad I do. I bought it with the possibility of towing in the future. But I have to admit, after I nailed it for the first time, I was vary satisfied with it's acceleration, along with the fact the engine was only turning 2,000 RPM at 80 M.P.H.

To me it only stands to reason the slower an engine turns on the highway in top gear, the longer it will last. Before the advent of all of these multi speed automatic overdrive transmissions, engines never went to the high mileage numbers they do today without wear related internal problems.

If you're paying attention, the problem isn't with the V8 owners saying the V6 is less powerful... it's in the way they say it. That's what usually opens up the can of worms and starts the pissing match. You may not take it personally but it's a guarantee that others will.

Wow!

Bottom line yes. Most of the thread is about the v6 guys trying to put down the hemi. And it appears someone had the audacity to ask where is it being bashed!

The entire thread to me imho turned to a justification of the v6 being not too different than the hemi. Which I call bs. Whether u like it or not the acceleration of the hemi vs the pentestar is night n day for gods sake!!!

It's funny, I've been laughing at the last couple pages of this thread. I have the benefit of direct comparisons between the 5 speed V6, the 8 speed V6 and now the 8 speed Hemi - I've now owned all three of them, within the last four years. The 5 speed was a dog, no matter how you try and work it - great engine, mated to a crap transmission. The 8 speed with the V6 was a night and day difference. Plenty of power on tap, decent acceleration and fairly quiet. Took some effort at passing though, I'd been known to need to wind it up a bit on the highway to get it moving. The 8 speed Hemi...forget it. It's going to be hard to go back to any V6 after this. Smooth as butter, gobs of grunt where you need it. It's faster on the takeoff than my V6 was, but it doesn't really hit its stride until you get it past 2500-3000 RPM's...but that's my opinion, maybe not fact.

I'm not going to bash anyone with the V6, I had two of 'em. Nothing wrong with it, I wanted something different and might need to tow. Would I go back to one? Not by choice.

And speaking of the 5.0 V8...I learned to drive on one of those in a '94 Bronco. I thought it had decent power back then when I was a teenager, and I had nothing against stomping on the gas. Now...it's dated. My dad still has it and we laugh at the fact that his V6 WK2 has more power than it does, and we just don't talk about comparing it with my Hemi haha.

I'll agree with that. I see much the same on gun forums with Glock and 1911 guys. It becomes a never ending saga. So much so I've seen people get banned over it. The same thing happens on many of the AR forums. It all degrades down to a b!tch contest.

Yep. I tend to avoid gun forums for the most part now unless I'm looking for information. Too many pissing contests. I'm an equal opportunity shooter myself, I'm not married to one brand. Although, I do have a pretty good fetish for H&K's.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

gwnewman1,
I agree with your assessment of the 5spd V6.....man that thing was just terrible. Like you said the engine was fine but that tranny just killed it. I got rid of it for that reason alone. It was a 2012 Overland. Great vehicle otherwise. After that was a 2014 Summit V8....LOVED the tranny/engine combo. Then they came out with the High Altitude and I wanted that. At the same time I was also starting to second guess my idea of getting the Hemi as it was always only me in the vehicle, never tow, never offroad, and started to not like seeing 15-17mpg just to haul my ass to and from work. Then test drove a new 2015 V6 and t really caught me off gaurd and I enjoyed it. Although not Hemi power, it had good power, but the lighter feel and better handling is what won me over.
It's actually funny how many Jeeps people have gone through on these forums. Including myself, I swear some people buy almost every year WK2 lol. Chrysler probably loves people like us.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

Heh, I'm running about 14mpg after the last fill up, been driving around town. It's sad. My V6 didn't do too much better around town though, so it's not a big loss. I was averaging about 17.5mpg going to and from work after I bought it, the V6 usually got about 18-19.

I had a 2012 for 13 months, then bought the '14 that I kept for 3 years and just traded it in last Monday for my '16 Limited. I love the Hemi, I figured after 2 of the V6's it was time for something different. I had no qualms with the V6 in my '14, aside from the need every now and then to wind it up when I was trying to pass someone on the highway, but that's about it.

That being said, when I was off in the woods yesterday taking pictures, I noticed that the V8 took far less effort to haul it's heavy a$$ back up out of the hill/ditch I was in. The V6 got a little wound up doing that when I had it back there, the 8 just kinda slid right on up the hill.
