Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance of my 3.6L engine. And that's coming from a skeptic who always had a V8 in his GC's. No issue at all with its acceleration for passing or climbing hills.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

The relatively trouble free German built ZF transmission in the V8 was a strong point in favor of the Hemi over the Chrysler built ZF version which has had a few issues. Such a shame as the Pentastar is a great engine.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I think the V6 accelerates real well, and I had the 5.7 Hemi, and a heavy foot.

It accelerates from a dead stop fairly well, at least with the 8 speed. I was not a fan of the V6 with the 5 speed. Where I tend to have issues with it is at highway speeds (65-70 and higher) when I need to pass someone. It's a fine engine, and I'm not "unhappy with it", I wanted something different this time around. Also, I may get a boat down the road, and since I'm probably going to keep this one longer than 3 years, made more sense to get the V8. I wouldn't want to pull a 5K trailer on the V6.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I wanted to like the HEMI, but after driving both the 3.6 and 5.7 back to back on a 90 degree day, the HEMI was a huge disappointment. In my opinion the cost just wasn't commensurate with performance.

For those that tested a Hemi and the Ecodiesel back to back, how much slower did the Eco feel? Thanks.

In what way is it disappointing?

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

There seems to be a trend now for some folks who have switched from the V8 to the V6. What are some of your reasons? As someone pointed out, "The things people say to justify the larger engine are amusing", I would like to hear how folks justify the smaller engine, perhaps in an 'amusing' way

Remember the stock engines are the same for everyone, the variable is the person and the environment. If you have 1000 different people you will have a 1000 different driving styles in 1000 different environments with a 1000 different results. A city dweller may get 10 mpg on the hemi a conservative highway only cruiser may get 25 mpg and the mixed are scattered somewhere in between. Trying to compare peoples mixed driving mpgs is like herding cats they are going to be all over the map, the best you can hope to come up with are generalizations of what the majority seem to be reporting or test reports but even then that's all it is a generalization. Really in my opinion the focus should be more on the big upfront cost not grasping at a couple mpg, Is that v8 worth that extra $3300 for your purposes? Some people want to spend thousands ripping out exhaust and putting on new ones, some people want to spend thousands on bigger wheels, some want to spend thousands on a bigger engine or whatever else. Everyone has different wants that's what keeps things interesting and make the world go round. There is no right or wrong answer though some people like to make it seem their way is the only right way.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

Listen bro ...I need the biggest engine and brakes.
I also need the loudest exhaust and a custom wrap.
That way ill get a bunch of thumbs up and high fives from my bro's and the chicks will be droppin panties. If you don't like it then you're just a hater who is jealous and secretly want to be me.

I'm an "Old Guy" and just wanted the HEMI.

I just couldn't convince my better half the need for the SRT's HEMI

Exactly you got the picture LOL , unfortunately some people are far too wrapped up trying to impress everyone around them instead of just being happy with what they personally want. Now don't get me started on the BMW crowd
