Its actually not as heavy as you might think. There is a 240lb weight difference between the 3.6 GC and 5.7 GC 4x4, summit was what i looked at if i remember correctly. So that 240 is not just the engine but all the other stuff that also goes with the 5.7, heavier duty 8hp70 trans, bigger axles/diffs bigger radiator/fan, bigger brakes and whatever other equipment they upgrade with the 5.7. Im sure its safe to say the engine only would easily be less than 200lbs difference but i dont know exactly. The difference on the diesel total over the 3.6 was 420lbs.

I don't really even notice the MDS or eco much any more after driving it for 3 years, need a little more power press the gas a little harder lol. I actually really like the 5.7/8spd feel its a good setup.
Are you guys 100% sure about that? All I know is that when I turned ECO off or put it in sport mode it without a doubt never activated in ths situations that annoyed me most(from what I can tell anyway). I even specifically turned ECO off in my neighborhood because it friggin drove me nuts how it would kind of stumble as you got back into the throttle then finally all 8 kicked back in. It for sure never once did it with ECO off. The MDS feature actually got more and more annoying to me the longer I owned it lol.

From what I've been able to find out, "ECO Mode" is built into the system. It's an integral part of the computer and electronics package that Chrysler has designed into the HEMI, that contributes to it's overall government fuel economy ratings. In essence it can't be turned on or off by the consumer.

Now with that said, I'm sure someone with enough electronic know how could do it. Just like people managed to get into Hillary's server. But not by everyone who buys one. In that regard it is, "consumer proof". A bit like how if you don't put your seat belt on, that dinging sound will continue until you do, or else you go nuts from listening to it.

One could disable mds altogether with a good tuner

I only occasionally drive in sport mode because I only drive with my left hand at the top of steering wheel and the up shifts are a pain.

Me either. There must be something wrong with their vehicles.

I don't think there is that much different between the drivetrain. Yes the Trans is the beefier version of the ZF 8 speed, but everything else is the same. The hemi is just an old fashioned cast iron motor that is heavy. The transmission probably adds a little bit more.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I think it's funny when the guys say the V6 works too hard. It's overwhelmed and doesn't move when you stomp on it. A V6 grand Cherokee is just as fast as most of the muscle cars of the 80's. It would have been quicker than any car built in the late 70's till early 80's. Corvette included. It has more power than most of the V8 engines from the 60's as well. 15 years ago a 15.7 second 1/4 mile was quick. Now it's underpowered. I guess it's all perspective. I guess if the hellcat engine becomes the standard SRT and the jeep got the Base SRT engine as an option. The regular hemi would be considered slow and underpowered. The fact is the the new 8spd V6 is just as quick as the previous hemi and is quicker in passing situations. I'm good with my V6. If I needed speed, it wouldn't be in a 5,000lb suv.

The V6 isn't a bad engine in the 2014 models and up , however the transmission in the V8 is the exact same as the one found in the Mercedes SUVs , the V6 isn't , one reason you pay a little more for the Hemi , also in the V6 models it is quicker only in 0-60 time in the models from 2011 to 2013 I believe , but for a heavy In my opinion and I had both V6 and V8 , the diesel or hemi is the better way to go especially higher resale value too

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

^^^ I wouldn't be so sure about that. Infact the fact of the matter is, most people don't want the V8 or diesel. Sure a higher engine package will always cost a bit more, but selling a V6 would likely be easier. Trade in differences I would say would be minimal. Ask any salesman, they will actually tell you they would prefer to have a V6 model on the lot. Times are changing that's for sure.
As far as the 8spd trannys, honestly, from a driving perspective it makes no difference whether it's a ZF or not...they shift exactly the same. I had both and was actually surprised because I thought I would notice differences. The V6 8spd immune has a nicer 1-2 shift though. My 2914 V8 had like a hiccup during 1-2 shifts. Not sure how to describe it, but it was like a short pause that was noticeable.
