Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I am now on my third GC. I have owned a 2006 SRT8 (had the dual center exhaust pipes) and a 2014 Overland (hemi). I now own a 2015 HA (hemi). For me personally, I felt a significant difference between the hemi and the pentastar. It wasn't really close in my opinion, especially when you put the hemi in sport mode (then it's a different beast altogether). Understand this. I am not here trying to offend anyone or be disingenuous. What I think it boils down to is that the hemi makes the GC feel more like a truck, which is what I prefer personally. But for many GC owners, this is actually not an advantage but a disadvantage. Which is why for some, the pentastar is actually the better engine choice - and I can totally understand that rationale. There is a family around the corner from me with a black WK2 with the pentastar, and they never even considered the hemi.

In the history of the 5.7 HEMI powered Jeep Grand Cherokee, I wonder if there has ever been a case, where the new purchaser drove his new HEMI Jeep off the lot, punched it to the floor, and said, "Damn it, I knew we should have got the V-6!"

I've never wished for less horse power.

For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I didn't choose the hemi again because of the following reasons:

Upfront cost

Didn't like seeing the low mpg on the EVIC

Burning oil

Early water pump failure rate

Hesitates off the line

Heavier weight which can be felt and makes it drive differently than the Pentastar

More frequent stops to fuel up

V6 Pentastar paired with the 8 speed transmission has good acceleration and is fun to drive, not that the Hemi isn't faster and more fun, I acknowledge that

Don't need a speeding ticket or to accelerate as fast as the Hemi allows

Hemi 5.7 just doesn't feel like a significant improvement for the cost of it

Exactly. Every time I didn't go with the "more power" option I regretted it. I've never regretted not having less power.

Same thing with boats. Get the most motor you can afford.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

Everyone here only seems to mention power power power. IMO there is a lot more to the driving experience than the amount of HP. Sure, we all love as much HP as we can get, but let's face it, we are only talking about 360 vs 290. Not insane differences, plus the V8 has a few hundred pounds more to lug around on the front tires.
When I brought my 2014 Summit V8 in and test drove the 2015 HA V6, I was pleasantly surprised that it felt almost every bit as quick at WOT. That wasn't what surprised me the most though... It was how much lighter, more nimble, and better balanced it felt. They both drive very differently, and myself being more of a performance car kinda guy, the HA V6 felt much better all around. The Hemi just kinda makes it feel fat for lack of a better term.
I wouldn't mind testing out a 2016 Hemi HA to see if the sportier air suspension and electric steering give it the same lighter and sportier feel that my V6 HA has. Still has all the extra weight over the front wheels, but I bet it really helps out.

And I much prefer the heavy steering feel and more truck driving experience. If I wanted a nimble, corner carver, I would have gotten a crossover.

yeah I agree I like my steering to have road feel to it, I have had it too lite on cars where you spin it around with one finger and its got no road feel and to heavy on cars where you are always fighting it. but my 2014 GC with the hemi hits it pretty good in the middle for an suv its got good feel to it. I have actually been generally impressed with how the GC handles for what it is and as heavy as it is. That is after I got some decent tires on it of course, the tires that came on it were a mushy mess concerning handling.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

I've had both engines 2014 V6 , now 2015 V8 , both engines are good , but the hemi is better , gas mileage is better in the V6 but not by much , I tested the diesel , has a bit of a turbo lag but all three engines are good , it comes down to preference, if your looking for speed SRT is the way to go, or get a higher end vehicle , like a BMW X5 or X6 or a Mercedes.

Re: For those who drive a Hemi 5.7

For me,

1) I don't want to make car payments on a vehicle that feels like a rental car and the 6 is what I get at the rental counter, be it a Durango or GC.

2) As many have stated, the mileage differential isn't worth the trade off.

3) The Hemi does move with more authority

4) The Hemi sound is intoxicating

5) The Hemi seems to match the 8 speed better

6) Sadly we won't have the V8 option forever so might as well enjoy it while we can.

And finally, without a Hemi / V8 option, I wouldn't be a Jeep owner (x2).
