Re: Former Rental Deal

I ended up with a Dodge Durango as a rental on vacation. They gave me the car with the "perform oil change" message. I told them about the message before I left with it and that I would be putting a lot of miles on the car but they said to ignore the message and they would perform the service when I turned in. I turned it in a week later with an additional 3000 miles of almost all mountain driving (Colorado). Being a car person I felt really bad every time I turned the car on. I would never buy any type of fleet vehicle.

Re: Former Rental Deal

My wife and I have lucked out. Two of our vehicles have been problem free, and both Enterprise rentals. The current 2014 was a long-term rental, and her earlier 2004 was as well. Only one problem with the 2004 (had it for several years), and none with the 2014 yet. The sole problem with the 2004 was just a leaking rear axle seal, so it was a relatively cheap fix.

That being said, that is not a good deal. My wife and I got about the same price (about $150 less) on ours with a few less miles and the V8, and that was about 8 months ago (when it was 8 months newer). And I considered it a "fair" deal at the time, not a great one.

Re: Former Rental Deal

I had a 2014 jgc limited rental that was used out here on the west coast by the fire fighters during fire season. It had a thick layer of dust inside and some brush pinstriping. It only had 5k but obviously lots of abuse.. No way would I have bought it for half the price. Besides, I know how I drive rental cars. LOL

I'd run away from that deal like it was an ebola covered dirty bomb.

Too much?

Runaway Forrest run away. Fast and far. That's not a "deal" in any sense of the word.

I didn't read any of the replies yet, but FWIW, I purchased my 2001 JGC with 36,000 miles that was formally a rental. I had it for about 9 years and it still looked good and drove well as when I took it off the lot. It only left me stranded once, but it was parked in a parking lot so I was able to leave it there for a day or two. It had 188,000 miles on the odometer when I got in an accident that killed it. If I didn't roll the vehicle I think I'd still be driving it and it would have close to 215,000 miles on it.

I know we're talking apples and oranges in terms of vehicles and I know how some people treat rental cars, but my Jeep was one of the most reliable cars I had owned. My current 2012 Wk2 IS the most reliable car I've owned. So you can go with that thought.

Re: Former Rental Deal

^^^ The big objection was the price they were asking for it... With a former rental it is a gamble - hit or miss. If you get the hit and a low price you're good.
