That said, mine were still at 6/32" at 40K miles. I only changed them out at that point because I already intended on doing it by fall and we were about to leave on a 3000 mile vacation trip. I felt that accelerating the replacement was worth it given I'd be hauling 1000 lbs of people and luggage with the potential of sloppy weather over two weeks. The Forteras did me no harm, however.
In the many threads about OEM tire life, there are some folks who get very low miles; some that get very high miles and folks on the largest portion of the bell curve get reasonable mileage. Terrain, driving style and other factors always come into play. And sometimes it's just a bad set of tires.
