Re: Forward 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock visibility

I'm 6'2" tall @ 220lbs.

I have no issues with visibility in my 2012 WK2 Overland. I see outside (front, sides, & rear) with no major issues. I've had vehicles with worse visibility and some with better.

I also have no issues seeing my dash indicators and instruments.

And finally, I find the amount of headroom excellent.

Just this morning I didn't see a guy approaching from the right. Yes I finally saw him, but at first he was hidden from view. I stopped to try and analyze the condition and realized that it is a combination of the fat, low angle, A pillar, the close placed rear view mirror and the corner of the window (where the tweeters are installed) all combine to block out a pretty good chunk of forward quarter views, especially when looking down at all.
I think it can be dealt with by extra looking but I'll bet it is a factor in a whole lot of accidents. My hat is definitely off to those who can see through or around all that structure, because it is definitely there.

2014 LAREDO,

Lol! I don't mean literally looking over, but sometimes I find myself sticking my head out like a turtle to see on a sharp turn.

Re: Forward 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock visibility

Now that was mentioned my sight line is over the mirror so is just the A pillar and am sitting far enough back that just leaning forward clears the area I can't see (more in the forward quadrant than to the side). This is usually when approaching a blind and sharp left turn so am generally going slowly anyway.

Am 5'10" but can see where someone height impaired could have a real problem. Have noticed that some smaller people tend to prefer larger vehicles.

Here are a couple of shots from my point of view in the GC. I didn't even see the guy crossing from the right when I was lining up the shot. He was about 15 feet away. The shot on the left fully blocks out a shopping cart that was about five feet away

Re: Forward 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock visibility

To me, the left side is the worst. If I am making a left turn, I really need to pay attention not to run over the curb or the car stopped in the street I am turning in waiting to make left.

The huge side view mirror and the speaker location causes the block. I am thinking if installing a front camera and lockpic so I can use that to scan before making turns. LOL.

Cheers,
-A

Re: Forward 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock visibility

Those A-pillars take some time to become accustomed to, but I have noticed the visibility is already better there (as well as around the rest of the WK2) than that on my previous 2009 WK.

Shortly after getting the new WK2 (less than two months ago ), I took it to a nearby empty parking lot to do some "airwork", various maneuvers (camera display covered when backing) to see what the visibility limits and handling were like.
