The system's a bit smarter than you think. You're trying to test it, but most likely being cautious (as you should!). Just leave it alone, wait and see. I've had it alert me a handful of times in two years. Mainly for corners that it didn't like, but a couple of times for real things (idiot cutting into the passing lane/ idiot on bike deciding to swerve out across the road without looking).

Trying to outsmart it and race up to something won't work... it really is smarter than that

Isn't what you are describing all on account of the ACC. In the Jeep, the ACC applies the brakes, the FCW does not.
Also, the FCW only activates if you get too close for your current speed. Maybe you need to race toward that stopped semi.

Sure sounds like it's not working properly. It is somewhat dangerous when testing, but you should definably be able to produce the collision warning notification.

Mine worked perfectly for the first 1500 miles or so. I was easily able to demonstrate it to friends. All of a sudden it stopped working. It was in for service 7 or 8 times and the dealer/Chrysler could not fix it. Chrysler even flew in an engineer to assist and still could not get it to work.

After I threatened legal action, Chrysler finally authorized the dealer to replace the front sensor and now it seems to be working. My problem started in March of 2012 and the sensor wasn't replaced until December 2012. What a hassle.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

Back from dealer. Said it had no error codes so they wouldn't test it further. Sounds like this needs to be addressed to Chrysler so that we can get a TSB released. Lots of people have reported issues with FCW only working when ACC is on and not working otherwise.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

Was this ever addressed? Just picked up new Overland and have similar issues with FCW. ACC works fine but nearly plowed into rear of another car and have not seen any messages. Not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly or there is something wrong here.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

I wonder (admittedly I have no idea) if this could be a UConnect issue. If its working in ACC and not in normal driving, then the sensor has to be working. All of those options for FCW to be near and far, brake on, or FCW on off are in UConnect. If there was a bug in that code it could be off and look like its on...

I thought mine wasn't working and I tested it by coming up on a car fast, but I obviously had to leave enough time to brake as I wasn't about to test it by plowing into another car. It wasn't until I was following someone and they pulled out into a turning lane and I just kept going as it was obvious that I wouldn't hit them, but if they had stayed in the same lane I would have. It warned me but didn't brake as the situation was resolved by then getting out of the way. I also thought it wasn't working, until it did... lol.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

I've had it come on twice, both within about 5 minutes of each other in traffic on Saturday. Which reminds me, don't take the SRT out on Saturday with the rest of the idiots...

In any case, 2 people pulled in front of me. I saw both and was moving from the accelerator to the brake, but the system was faster. I can tell you when it comes on and flashes brake/bings/etc. - it shuts the speed down fast. Both times you could hear ABS engage. Neither time was I even close to hitting the other vehicle, and neither time was the amount of braking done by FCW required. It is really aggressive on the SRT, could be from the brakes, not sure how aggressive it is elsewhere. I will take it though, it proved that it reacts quicker than I can. And, I'd rather it be aggressive than not enough (providing no one plows into the back of me).

Thats awesome, unless the guy behind you doesn't have manhole covers for discs and 99 piston brembo brakes like the SRT.. then you hope they have FWC as well.. lol

Re: Forward Collision Warning

How do you test this? I'm not brave enough to play chicken with brand new 50K car. I have not seen this in action yet and I would think that at least in one case (guy cut me off literaly 3 feets in front of me on highway) it would.

Do you need to have ACC ready? In EVIC it says ACC OFF. On the other hand there is a button to explicity turn this OFF so I would imagine it is ON all the time unless you hit this off button.

What is the difference between FCW (from 2011 - 2013 models) and FCW Plus (2014+). I think there is some difference couldn't find what is the difference. Any ideas?

Re: Forward Collision Warning

FCW and ACC are separate in the 2014. I can't speak for the previous...

There are options in the UConnect to turn FCW on or off. Make sure that is on and the system, in theory, is on regardless of any ACC settings.

I don't think I'd try to test it...but you will know when it activates.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

Did the pre-MY14 JGC FCW have mitigation. I seem to see a lot of people saying that before the 14 model that it would warn you but not brake for you. If this is a new thing for 14 it would answer a lot of questions.

No mitigation on the WK2 prior to 2014.
