Re: Forward Collision Warning

Update: If FCW is indeed separate from ACC, then I do have a problem. Stop and go traffic is crazy in Houston and I have never had this alert me even if someone dead on slams their breaks on 50mph traffic in front of me. System does not work and it is unfortunate that there has not been a TSB recall on this.

Re: Forward Collision Warning

The system does not work below 20 mph. The ONLY way that I know to test the system is to fail to brake (at speeds above 20 mph) when following very close to a car in front of you that is about to make an unhindered right turn. I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT YOU DO THIS - CRASH AT YOUR OWN RISK but that is how it is likely to get triggered. The system will not work in bumper to bumper traffic. Also ensure that the detection is set to Far.

I thought of a potentially good test. A light cardboard box in the middle of an unbusy road or parking lot. Then try to run into it?

Re: Forward Collision Warning

The system does not respond to stationary object, it will only respond if the is a sudden decrease in speed of the object (in most cases a car) in front of you is detected.

FCW will warn you on the display if there is still no driver input (if you have mitigation which I believe is available on 2014 models), the system will apply brakes, only for 1.5 seconds, in the hope that the river will take over.

This happens regardless if adaptive cruise is on or off.

This makes total sense to the times that I have seen it work for me. I thought it was random when it worked and when it didn't.. but both times it has been when car in front of me was braking and I was not...

Just curious, When adaptive cruise control is on, and the vehicle slows down due to the vehicle in front of me slowing down, does the car behind me see break lights?

No, the car behind you will only see brake lights

They will see break lights only if they smash into you.

I'd just like to point out that if the brake lights don't turn on I think there would be a serious safety issue. I mean if jeep couldn't blip the throttle on a downshift because there was no driver throttle input at the time because of a safety issue I doubt they would let this slide.
