Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I would be utterly and totally shocked if there was a 2015 sales freeze (assuming there is even one which is doubtful) because of the shifter. I get that people don't like it but there are many other shifter types out there, some more strange to use than the 14/15 JGC shifter. I personally don't ever look to see what gear I am in in my 2014, it is all done by feel just like all the other shifters I have gotten used to before. People are just putting too much blame on this shifter versus being a diligent driver. I can find fault with every shifter out there - a lot of the old school stick type shifters people accidentally bump while driving on occasion. I can't wait for the shifter recall software to come out so that we can rule out everything but driver error and put the responsibility where it belongs --- on the driver!

Also when they entered my VIN they told me there IS a recall but they don't have the parts yet for the shifter on the 14 and early 15. Not sure what the parts are or what will be done as they said it was just a heads up until they get the parts. So that sounds like more than just a flash to the transmission controller.
All indications are, there are not physical "parts". I would suspect he misspoke or just referring to the software as a "part".

The shifter sucks! I'll be glad when they fix that mistake.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I was recently involved in a small accident with a car backing out of a parking spot while i was waiting in the middle lane for a different car to pull out on the opposite side of the lot. I wasn't able to find reverse fast enough in that 2-3 seconds of panic, wound up in neutral and got hit.

The accident caused some paint damage to the bumper. The driver never heard me laying on the horn or even saw me. They paid me cash a few days later once i got three body shop estimates for a re-spray. To be honest though, I can probably work out about 70% of the marks using my DA polisher, a little Menzerna compound and polish.

If i would have had a gated shifter or lineal shifter like in the 2016's, I would have avoided this accident all together. Sucks for me.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

My 2015 that I just purchased on May 6th was built on Nov. 15, 2015 so I wonder if there are any shifter updates for it. I took it to my service dealer (bought the vehicle a hundred miles from my home) and they checked it and did a PCM and BCM update and that was what showed up when they checked it. I already posted that the shifter is not that big of problem to me so far anyhow.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

2015 Grand Cherokees on dealer lots are grounded until the shifter fix is done which, believe it or not, is scheduled for Q4 2016. So there may be new 2015s on the lot when the 2017s arrive!

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

Thank God I have my 2015 already. The shifter works as it was designed to. It works fine.

You have a 2016, don't you have the new shifter design??

I've had my '14 for just over a year and never have to look at the shifter to find the right gear. They put in detents for this exact reason, just like a normal shifter.

That's a bit of a stretch.

Gated shifters and ones with detents are not even close to being similar.

Id be happy to look further into your concerns regarding the parts for the recall. Please private message the page with your VIN, contact information, and FCA dealership. Thank you Kevin T, Social Connect Team

Cant you just post on the forum what the 2014-2015 recall is EXACTLY and if there are parts involved? It would really help clarify a lot of things for many of us here.

Not sure why it needs to be kept secret in a PM (minus his personal information).
