Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

This last Thursday /Friday we actually had narrowed down our purchase to 4 Grands at different dealers. Not one dealer will sell us one. Even Koons in VA won't. Same story at each; if there is a recall on the vehicles that involve safety or emissions, while FCA may not put out an official sale freeze, the dealers won't sell them. Saying that it could be 6 to 8 months...

Will be interesting if that long. Wonder how incentives and sales would be handled.

This recall came out on 5-4-2016 from what I read. If you happen to find this note I would suggest you check yours too at this site posted below--. If they were going to freeze selling them (which they aren't doing--you would think it would have been before we bought ours.) So far I am having no trouble with the shifter, but of course being very careful. I guess it is good to give us a warning of what could happen if we get careless. I hope you are enjoying your new WK2 too.

Safety Recall Information | MOPAR
Just checked that out and have the same recall code.....It says repair parts are not available. Guess like you said just got to be extra careful, But i love this damn truck! My first Suv ever. came over from coupes g35 and bmw 3 series so its a big change but i love it.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I got the notice for the shifter recall and it said to wait until they are prepared to do it. I believe it is going to be software only to prevent rolling if the car is in gear and the driver vacates. Hmm. We will see.

Direct from Jeep - it is software only. The "parts" must be the actual software update.

INTERESTNG: I just called the FCA recall phone number -1-800-853-1403 and found out that they have put a freeze on selling any 2015 GCs for the present until a solution is found to solve the problem and right now no solution has been found. On the site I listed to check your VIN, mine is on it. AND the RECALL date is 5-04-2016 so they should not have sold me this vehicle on 5-06-2016. This lady kept saying it was 5-16-2016 that this recall came out. (or maybe IT did goof up) She was going to let IT know about it. Maybe they changed it since they had sold some vehicles to customers like me after the May-04-2016 date if that is correct. (Anyhow, I printed some copies of the date on paper.) Should I be glad or sad that I got mine.) That probably means mine and anybody else on this recall is not going to get a FCA dealer to take it in trade till this has been solved? Any comments from someone that knows more about it than I do. Maybe that is why I got a good deal (price wise) on the 6h of May.

Doesn't matter...there are probably like millions of 2014/2015 Grand Cherokees just like yours driving on the street right now. There is nothing different about yours that it shouldn't be driving on the street right now.

I suspect that the freeze on selling model year 2015 is totally a liability precaution for FCA. There are so many FCA cars on the road with this transmission that are not complaining about anything. I have no regrets. I think you can be comfortable and not regret getting a good deal on the car that you really did want. The only thing I fear is when they do in fact make the update available, they might screw things up more than they are already

Having had a Cherokee before this move, I must agree with you about leaving some things alone as they might make it worse. Many Cherokee owners lost 2nd gear when they had the update flash. You are correct too that I like this vehicle and think it is great and will just have to be careful not to make a "dumb" mistake. Like I said already, probably good to get this recall just to remind me and others to make sure your in Park when you leave your vehicle!! Sorry if I sounded too negative--it is a beautiful vehicle.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

New member here. Found this site looking for information on the JGC that I just bought. I'm one of those that purchased a 2015 Limited 4x4 eco diesel on May 14th. If this is true, I'm glad I bought it when I did because I wanted the cheaper price on the left over. I probably wouldn't have been able to swing a 2016 with these options.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

From Consumer Reports: Federal law explicitly prohibits dealerships from selling a new car if a pending recall hasn’t been performed.

FCA cannot sell the Jeeps. It's not their lawyers, it's not a liability precaution, it's the law. Dealers who sold vehicles after May 4 did so out of ignorance of either the law or the existence of the recall, or they don't care.

There is no law that prevents dealerships from selling USED cars with pending recalls. Therefore, I don't see why a dealer wouldn't take a 2014/2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee in on trade, because there's nothing stopping them from reselling it.
