FCA cannot sell the Jeeps. It's not their lawyers, it's not a liability precaution, it's the law. Dealers who sold vehicles after May 4 did so out of ignorance of either the law or the existence of the recall, or they don't care.

There is no law that prevents dealerships from selling USED cars with pending recalls. Therefore, I don't see why a dealer wouldn't take a 2014/2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee in on trade, because there's nothing stopping them from reselling it.

Thanks for the information as I was most definitely wrong about what I assumed and you know what that means.

Not sure why it needs to be kept secret in a PM (minus his personal information).
Cuz Jeep doesn't care.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

It is SOFTWARE ONLY ---- NO HARDWARE. That's direct from Jeep representative.

Apparently they haven't finalized the software update yet. Probably the fed govt needs to approve what the change will be which takes time as they probably have to enter in an agreement that this remedies the matter now and forever between the fed govt and FCA.

As for the sales, I can't tell if there's been a stop sales order from NHTSA. And I don't know this area of law well enough to know if a stop sales order is automatic with a recall, but it doesn't seem to be.

I do not know which recall is associated with your VIN. As a result, I will need your VIN to see which recall is associated with your specific vehicle in order to be able to relay accurate information regarding parts and any other concerns you may have. Thanks – Kevin T, Social Connect Team

Went to my local dealer last night to look at a new lease and trade in my MY14 Limited. Owner of the dealership told me he would take my trade but he couldn't put it out on his lot for sale until the recall was completed. He said he had to pull a used MY15 from his for sale bc of the recall as well. Not sure if it's required by law or if they are just CYAing themselves with the used vehicles.

That doesn't sound right. It could be this dealer's decision. I don't think ALL USED FCA cars with this pending recall, including various Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep would be pulled from sales until completed, which doesn't appear to be possible for quite a while. I would bet there are some deals to be made right about now. I imagine one might be able to negotiate a 2016 for about the same a leftover '15 since they can't be sold.

....already received my fire kindling in the mail about how to put my jeep in park. So I already know I am apart of the recall.

I think a small re-work to the newer '16 + shifter that would include a "sport mode" notch (when all the way back) for '14-15 guys would be somewhat acceptable, instead of the typical bandaid re-flash.

FCA needs to step up here big time and make right to all owners with this $hit bag of a shifter.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

Guess its a good thing I'm broke. I usually buy new every year if not more...sounds like resale be low due to having to park em out back for few months....can other manufacturer dealers sell them?

I do know there's a lot of sensitivity with "quality dealers" around used vehicles with unfulfilled recalls...there's been a bit of press over the past couple years about it being an issue, so perhaps some dealers are taking the high road if they are not required by law to insure that they are taken care of prior to re-sale. I personally do not know what the law is.
