I trade often too and just bought my WK2 on May 6th and then I saw this:
Safety Recall Information | MOPAR that the recall started on May 4th. I had read earlier on here that a dealer could resale one waiting on the recall "fix" if it was used. I traded out of a Cherokee which I liked and had no problems but I wanted a little larger vehicle which would not have any recalls. I am not upset with the problem unless the problem devaluates my WK2 or I cannot trade it when I get the "bug' again. Well, may save me money in the long run as I do like the vehicle so far. Maybe the FCA representative on here could clarify that for me. Thanks.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I have a 2015 GC Overland. Traded my 2011 for this one. The 2011 definitely had a much more intuitive shifter and I believe the 2016 will go back to what people are use to having - a shifter that stays where you put it where Fully Forward is Park and Fully Back is Go. Your eyes stay on the road and you have more situation awareness around your vehicle even if stopped.

Nevertheless, I am shopping for a second Jeep GC. One is simply not enough. I had my eyes on a really good deal on a slightly used 2015 about 70 miles from home, but the dealer refused to sell it citing the recall. So, I drove down to the local dealer to see if there was a way around this. Their dealership has the same attitude. FCA (or some law) will not let them sell new 2015s and their owner is unwilling to sell any 2014 or 2015 Grand Cherokee with this open recall, new or used. Then I called dealers in nearby states. They said they'd sell me any 2015. I'm wondering if all dealers have the word yet.

Some other tidbits the sales manager at my local dealer told me. I had a bit of a problem swallowing some of this, but here it is.
- The shifter fix will take place in July vice October as they were originally told.
- The shifter fix was originally software, but they are being tentatively told the fix is a swap out to the 2016 shifter (huh?)
- 2017s Jeep GCs will not be available until Spring 2017.

Seriously doubt it. Remember, dealers notoriously know less than we do. Shouldn't be, but it works out that way.

Great info, but I can't imagine them retrofitting the 2016 Shifter. Remember, the '14-15 shifter allows slapping it in an out of Sport mode. The '16 has the Sport button on the dash near the ECO, Park Sensor, etc. I'm curious, though, just how they are going to change it. Just today, I was in a busy Home Depot parking lot and while zipping around to back into a spot I kept missing R. Kept hitting either N or P but R was hiding until I stopped, cursed, looked at the display and gently slipped it in!

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

i received a recall notice and it states that a remedy will be worked out by the 4th quarter of 2016. It says to be sure the vehicle is in park by doing a visual check and also applying the parking brake before exiting the vehicle. They give a quick reference card to be put on the visor instructing what to do. When the next notice comes in the mail, i can schedule an appointment.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

Long time Chrysler guy, potential first-time Jeep owner. I have a deposit on a leftover 2015 JGC Limited. I put the deposit down the day after the stop-sale order because it was the last remaining Deep Cherry Red Crystal Limited within a couple of hundred miles. The dealer assured me not to worry - the issue should be resolved in a few weeks. If I have to wait until October, as some here are saying, forget it. I like the car a lot, but I'll like driving a Ford Explorer that I can actually take home a lot better. Here's hoping they come up with a fix in a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

There was a Maximum Steel and a Billet Silver available on the lot, as well. Maximum Steel looked a little purplish to me, and I didn't think silver did justice to the lines of the body. If I had to choose it would be between the red and Granite. I think I prefer the red. Initially I was smitted by the Light Frost Beige interior, but I have come around to the black. Now, just to get the thing in my driveway!

It's just my opinion, but if you left a deposit on the Jeep, it seem that you really want the Jeep. I agree that it is a royal pita to have to wait until the recall is finalized, but you might regret getting the Ford instead of waiting. I would talk to the dealer GM about your situation. They might come up with a solution, like a loaner until yours is available. It is probably worth a shot. When jumping in on car purchase, it is much too important, and expensive, too, to settle for anything less than your first choice. I moved from Infiniti to the Grand Cherokee. My first domestic car in about 25 years and I love my Jeep! Again....that's just my opinion. I hope you can work it out.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I do like the car a lot, and am willing to wait for a reasonable amount of time. I just sold my 2013 200 convertible, though, and I will be driving my 1994 Caravan 5-speed until I can close this deal. I'd be fine if they sent me home with my new car as a "loaner" with my plates on it/covered by my insurance until the recall "fix" comes through. In fact, that would be a smart move for them, as it would pretty much ensure that I won't go anywhere else. If this drags on past June I either want out so I can shop for a 2016 JGC (or something else, though I am loathe to go outside the Mopar family) or I want more of a price consideration than I have already gotten because I will be purchasing what amounts to a two-year-old vehicle.
