Imagine a dealer like Koons sitting on 15's with 16's arriving and 17's on warming in the bullpen...Koons can handle it but smaller dealers can't without some floorplan "support".

So let me get this straight..... People are thinking the car is in Park, but it's only going to neutral and then getting out? Or is it slipping out of park into neutral?

The former, not the later. I haven't read any claims that the shifter is jumping out of park once placed in park. They think it is in park but is really just in neutral or perhaps reverse.

Yes

No

When you push the stick forward quickly it may not have electronically taken your quick push forward as a "P" command and seems to usually end up in "N". The lack of direct/tactile feed back that many people are used with the older shifters does not help this. So the fix is to, in a measured steady way, push forward and observe it light up "P"...works 100% of the time, no fix required but since 700 (out of 811,856 vehcles) field reports have been made including 212 crashes, 308 claims of property damage and 41 injuries FCA had no choice but to do something...hence the forthcoming stronger EVIC messaging/warnings and revised shift strategy software update/fix in the form of a safety recall.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

Actually, it's not Neutral. Sometimes, if one is in Drive, depresses the brake pedal and then presses the shifter button while pushing the shifter towards Park, intending to shift into Park, the transmission only goes to Reverse. Then, thinking its in Park, the driver may hit the ignition start/stop button and exit the vehicle with the engine running and transmission in Reverse. Sure, if one is slow and careful, this won't happen. But, unless one is consciously paying close attention, and let's face it .... That is usually not the case, it is quite easy to make this mistake. Consider that after so many years of driving automatic transmissions that behave a certain way, where you can easily feel which gear position you are shifting into without even looking, this new electronic shifter behaves differently. While the vast majority of drivers won't have a serious problem with this, a considerable number will. Hense, the recall currently being developed.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

OK. I talked with my RI dealer about a price on a '16 (I have a deposit on a '15). We were miles apart in price. I am in DC this week for work and, after researching here, checked out Koons. I contacted Craig Benner, the new JeepGarage contact, this afternoon and went over after work. When I got there the car I mentioned in my e-mail to him was there waiting for me. His price undercut my RI dealer's by $1600, so, instead of flying home tomorrow night I will be driving home in my new '16 JGC Limited. Not only was his price lower than my RI dealer's on a '16, but it wasn't that much higher than their price on the '15. Minimal hassle, minimal aggravation, and the deal is done. Now all that remains is getting my deposit back from the RI dealer . . .

That's awesome, congratulations! How do you like the new red color? I haven't seen it yet, except in pictures.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

Thanks! I looked at the '16 red at my RI dealer - it's beautiful. A little "richer" than the Deep Cherry. The one I ended up buying is Granite. That was my second choice, but I think it looks great on the JGC. I initially wanted the light frost beige interior, but I have come around to the black. The coppery tone of the "metallic" trim warms it up a bit. It's funny how some cars just look great in certain colours and not in others. Ordinarily I like white cars, but I don't think white flatters the Jeep. Same with silver (just my opinion on both - it's a handsome vehicle no matter the colour).

Wowee! Golly Gee Willigers! How cool is that? Great idea negotiating on the 16 in DC. Enjoy your new baby. I suppose you will be driving it to your RI dealer to get your deposit back with a smile on your face!
