Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I really wanted to buy my first Jeep from the RI dealer - a family owned business in the same location since the 1920s. They were honest and straightforward with me, but they just couldn't get to the price I needed to make my numbers work. I'll give them all my service work, though, as I have for my 2013 200 convertible and my trusty 1994 Caravan, and I'll feel a little bad about not buying there. But, money is money . . . I'm really glad I stumbled across this forum - it saved me money and has already given me some insight into Jeep ownership. Thanks, everyone. I look forward to learning and sharing more!

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

I can understand wanting to patronize that family owned business rather than becoming just another number to behemoths like Auto Nation. But I always wonder just how much I leave on the table after negotiating what I think is a good deal. I also think that with auto sales what they are these days, any sale, as long as the dealer doesn't take a loss is good for the dealer. Your local dealer lost out by being way over what you ended up paying. Greed is bad on either side of the table. That's just my opinion. It's what makes buying a car so difficult. You never know exactly what the bottom line is.

Don't feel bad for the dealer, I'm sure they wouldn't feel bad about overcharging you. They probably will be better off with servicing your vehicle since that usually ends up being more profitable for them than the new car sales usually anyway. Car dealers have lost my loyalty though poor experiences (except for Koons, would buy another Jeep from them in a heartbeat if they keep those competitive prices).

MDRRI, can you put that new ride on your expense voucher instead of the plane ticket? ROFLOL!!

My "office" is near there and I travel down frequently for customer meetings. I've avoided stopping at Koons simply because I might be too tempted. LOL

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

fwiw - I had contacted a dealer in Arizona (phx area) about a 15 with the options I wanted (diesel, 4wd, ORA-II). They replied a few weeks ago they weren't allowed to sell it to me / recall.

Last tuesday I negotiated/agreed to buy a jeep in Texas - 2015 diesel/4wd/ORA-II. They sent me some paperwork with the following info:
Quote:
Recall Information
Incomplete Recall
Recall Number--- Description------------Part Number ------------ Launch Date
S27 TRANSMISSION ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER *INTERIM May 14, 2016
So i can't advise if there's a freeze or not. Dealer 1 in early/mid-May wouldn't sell a 2015 ... dealer 2 will.

Normally I wouldn't touch a vehicle with a recall, but I don't really see this as a true problem, and am looking forward to getting the jeep - hopefully in the next 7-10 days (waiting on financing ppwk etc - long distance purchase, then delivery to me)

It might be that Texas doesn't really consider itself part of the USA. They've been trying to cecede from the Union for many years and don't feel constrained by the US constitution or courts. Why would they follow a freeze by our corrupt system? (I'm joking, of course). I say go for it.

Sometimes the Feds make up the rules as they go along.

"Automakers are allowed to sell the vehicles with the inflators under an existing order by NHTSA. But all of the vehicles using the air bags must be recalled by the end of 2018."

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

My understanding is that dealers are officially not allowed to sell these vehicles until the recall is resolved. Those that do will face sanctions from FCA. Some might risk it, but most won't. I do wonder, though, if this drags out, how many dealers will take that risk. Paying floor plan on vehicles that can't be sold is a losing proposition.

Re: Freeze on new 2015 sales

i specifically asked my salesman in Texas if FCA had a 'stop sale' on 2015's due to the transmission recall. He said "no, fix or flash in August"

fwiw ... still waiting for them to send the correct paperwork for the sale so I can hire a shipper and get my jeep...

Doesn't matter what a salesman says, NHTSA issued the stop-sale and it is in full force but dealers will forever chose short term profit over laws until they lose a court case, if they ever do....if they will sell it I would buy, hope u r driving your new JGC soon.

WOW! I just read that article from NPR that you posted a link to. They mention that FCA has admitted selling cars with suspect inflators but the article only listed Mitsubishi, VW and Audi as actually having them in new cars. Does anyone have any idea if the Grand Cherokee does and which years' models?? Not that we can do anything about it but I think it would be nice to know. Of course, I suppose we all try not to have the air bags deploy, but accidents do happen and then what? Maybe we should all be wearing safety goggles and helmets. This is a tough one for car makers and car owners. I wonder if it is really possible to replace that many units!
