Well at least we can take comfort in the certainty that an automaker would never fudge its statistics or jigger its software to its own benefit.

Oh wait ...

Dan, even if it is purely operator error, it's clearly at a high incidence level with similar circumstances across the board. The human side of things is very much a factor, for sure, but it appears that the level of concern has crossed a threshold such that both FCA and the agency with authority have deemed it actionable. It is what it is.

What's more interesting to me will be what they change with the "fix"...

Re: Freeze on RENTAL recalled vehicles too! Oh my...

Jim - I hear you ... I am all for enhancing safety for sure and making things more user proof if possible. But the shifter itself is not defective (there aren't any hardware changes in the recall), they are going to add some more or louder warning chimes and lights I suppose and maybe something more failsafe such as auto engage in park when door opens. So people that think Jeep is gonna change the shifter are mistaken. In my opinion, which I am sure was made clear in earlier posts , is a ground stop recall over this issue is silly.

I wear a seat belt because I'm worried about the other drivers on the road. I don't drive carelessly because I have a belt on and a steel cage surrounding me.

Just like over padded football helmets.....let's use my head as a weapon cuz I got this big ol' helmet on.....no outside damage so keep doing it over and over again. I think it was Lou Holtz that said to solve the concussion issue just prohibit helmets. Seems counterintuitive, but correct.

well, there must not be a freeze on 2015's because I just returned my loan ppwk and a check to the dealer in Texas - and the shipper is scheduling pick-up

Once they do sell them, there will be many low milage 2015's out there forever, lowering the value of our 2015's even more

FCA developed a bad design. Although I agree it is user error that is causing the problem. However FCA can fix it and survive. I heard the are gonna try to swap brake and gas pedal positions on next generation JGC just to be different!

And there will be those who defend it, saying it works fine for them and it only took them ten seconds to get used to it and anybody who has a problem with it is an idiot who has no business driving in the first place.

If they are a FCA dealer they can lose their franchise
