Frustrating Quality Problems on my '17 Summit (but I still love it!)

I guess after driving Lexus vehicles for the prior 5 years I'd become used to impeccable quality. In any event, since purchasing my '17 Summit 5.7L in late October 2016 I'd had to take it to the shop several times:

1. Rain-sensing wipers malfunction (cause: loose connection)
2. Drifting + off-center steering wheel (had to be aligned twice)
3. Malfunctioning parking brake (2 visits: finally diagnosed as a loose cable)

I consider all of these to be quality control problems. FCA needs to get its act together. But in spite of all this I still love my Summit!

Let's hope Jeep is continuing to improve quality - both at assembly and with its parts suppliers. It's good, but as we all have read (or written!) tighter quality control would make the Jeep experience better (especially with less trips to dealer service departments which is hit or miss).

Years back they said the difference in quality between a Chevy and a Caddy was the amount of time they gave them to build each car.

What is Jeep turning out a JNAP, a Jeep a minute?

I just passed the 6 month mark with my '17. I wave to the dealer as I drive by, but have had no reason to stop. At this point with my last Jeep I was on a first named basis with everyone in the service department.

Hit and miss.

Annoying issues for sure but minor. The Lexus brand will definitely beat Jeep in terms of interior fit and finish most of the time, but as far as mechanical they have their problems too just like all brands. My wife's 2007 RX400h blew the water pump at barely over 40,000 and all the service guys at the dealer were shocked since, according to them, "they never see them go that early." I complained to Lexus and they cut us a check for half the repair, which also included new timing belt and thermostat since they had it ripped apart already.

For me, the minor but very frustrating issues like uConnect freezing, and awful HVAC control are top of my list and I'm just waiting for some fresh TSB updates to fix them. At the end of the day, it's amazing how close they came to a darn near perfect vehicle in this 2014 refresh of the WK2.

There is a recent HVAC software flash --- don't know the details but it is new since October 2016 when it was last at the dealer.... maybe that'll help you?

Looking to trade my 2014 Overland for a 17 Limited or Overland. Can't stand the rough/ harsh downshifts from 6-5-4. It also seems to hesitate when quickly accelerating to pass someone on the freeway. How's the transmission shifts in the 17?
