Fuel Filter Replacement interval for 14' Grand Cherokee

How hard will it be to replace the fuel filter and how often should you do it?

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement interval for 14' Grand Cherokee

I don't know hard it is, but I don't think it is something you need to worry about. Assuming you are referencing the gas (vs diesel) version, according to WK2Jeeps:

"Two fuel filters are used. One is located at the bottom of the fuel pump module, the other is located inside the module. A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used with any gasoline engine. They do not require normal scheduled maintenance. Filters should only be replaced if a diagnostic procedure indicates to do so."

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement interval for 14' Grand Cherokee

Lifetime fuel filters have been around for awhile. My first was in an '87 Bronco II. When I sold it with 168,000 miles on it, it was still running fine.

I always wondered if at some point in time gas stations started using better filters in their tanks and dispensers.

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement interval for 14' Grand Cherokee

There's probably something connected to the EPA requiring all fuel stations in the US that supply the public requiring better tanks/containment of fuels to prevent leaching and etc...

This started somewhere in the early 80s

Here's 1 EPA study link from 1986

Underground Motor Fuel Storage Tanks: A National Survey | Office of Underground Storage Tanks (OUST) | US EPA

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement interval for 14' Grand Cherokee

There is a thread on fuel filter for diesel. Do a search.
