Someone on another thread, bought a new JGC and only drove 90 miles before needing gas.
Every new vehicle I have purchased (and come to think about it, every used one from a dealer) have always included a full tank.
Even when I ordered one from many states away and had the car shipped, they didn't want to ship it full so they included a gas gift card.
When I bought the '15, the salesman called out that he had filled it up, like it was something special. I dismissed it as just trying to make me think I got more for my money, again thinking they all came that way...
But now I'm curious, is it not a thing to get them full anymore?
Better than what i got on my 2014 overland. Gave it to me on E. Same dealer bad experience the 1st time but did a bit better this time. Still not a 10 in my book, maybe a 6...
Wouldnt buy again from them either way. Just got a good deal on tbe Altitude and trade in.
Have to say in the last 8 years I have not experienced ever having anything but a full tank at purchase.... and I've bought a lot of cars in that time... (average 1 per year). Guess I was lucky with good dealerships nearby (NoVA)
Every time I purchased a car at a dealership they've given me a full tank, the exception being the Dodge dealership where I bought my brand new SRT ( they did fill the tank on that). When I traded that in and bought two cars they only gave me a half a tank in each car.
I was super pissed because at that point I had bought three cars from the dealership one being a brand-new SRT that was $65k, and a full tank of gas seems like a very small thank you from the dealership.
I think more and more dealers are not filling the tanks up anymore
Between the three cars I purchased there, I spent about $130k.... and they can't give me a full tank of gas
My build sheet just stated 7.5 gallons. Obviously not even close to full. My dealer filled it up though, saying most people demand it. That was 2014, things may have changed. But I would assume that you could expect about 7.5 gallons and anything beyond that is between you and the dealer.
I think the 7.5 gallon is the standard issue anything above is up to the dealer. Kind of like loaners some do some dont. These days custmer loyalty to dealers or dealer loyalty to customers is out the window people just scrape every penny they can from each other.
Every GC I've had came with a full tank of gas. Yes, the vehicle is shipped with about 7 gallons... a good dealer will fill it up for you. On the other side of the coin, I purchased a brand new Ford pickup that ran out of gas before I could make it to a gas station a few blocks down the street. What made it worse was that it was -20F that day.
In all my new car purchases I have never got a full tank. It was usually less than 1/4. I mentioned this to the salesman who made this part of the deal. On pickup it was not full. They got me to drive it down the road where I proceeded to make it full. Naturally, I filled it with PREMIUM fuel
I make sure the car has a full tank prior to signing the paperwork. 15+ new vehicles and I've never had a vehicle with anything less than a full tank. Ever.
mine had about an 1/8 tank in it when i went to pick it up, wasn't having that! So needless to say my salesman wound up driving with me to the gas station to fill it up before i drove home. He did mention on the way back that a 1/4 tank or less is the norm when they sell new or used.
I have bought 2 vehicles this year. 1 was a big diesel and this new trailhawk. Neither got a full tank and I complained on both. My dealer on the jeep tried to make me feel like the $10 they put in the tank was a favor. " you saved a lot of money buying from us" Bullshit! YOU TOOK $40K PLUS off me and then a doc fee of $509. You owe me 20 more gallons of fuel.
But I just took it and chalked it up to...I could have bought from somewhere I knew would not have given me reason to be disgusted. Dealer has a shady rep.
I bought mine secondhand. I still asked the salesman if it comes with a full tank, and he was surprised. I just said for that kind of money the least they can do is give me a full tank. I got it with a full tank on pick up.
Yea my 16 75th was the first time the jeep did not have full tank of gas. All other Jeep's and cars had full tank. Didn't catch it til I was almost home from the dealer.
The first time I got a full tank was 1987. I jokingly told the salesman the gauge must be broken. Since then, 10 new cars later, only my 2014 JGC came with less than a full tank.
Hah, I hadn't even thought about that, yeah, all I have traded in were close to E as well...
I guess it isn't fair to always EXPECT it full, was just so used to it I had not realized it wasn't followed 100%.
Based on some of the above comments, I guess I have always chosen good dealers.
Actually I have been VERY happy with all but one of my chosen dealers and even that ONE was 90% good to me (slipping in some BS extra coverage when I wasn't looking).
Glad to see it looks like MOST have had a decent / full fill upon purchase. Still suprised its not a 100% thing but rather it seems to vary by dealership or even salesman in some cases.
I wonder if any higher dollar / luxury brands have a set policy?
Do Mercs, Jag, Land Rover or BMW all come full? I hear more of those dealers have loaner cars so thinking the full tank may be another perk...
If you look on a build sheet, there is a code for a certain amount of fuel that is provided by the manufacturer. Many dealers supplement this by filling to full because they feel that's a valuable benefit to their customers. There are some dealers, however...
Only 23 so I don't have much car buying experience, but when I am shopping around at a dealer I make sure that a full tank is included in whatever I purchase.
My cheap @$$ dealer (Ganley in Bedford) only had mine filled about halfway. Salesman said that's how they all are now. They also tried to get me on some other crap too, but the key is to do your research before you go in so that you can call them out on it.
MY 11 = full tank. MY15 = $40 of fuel. Same dealer. Odd, but I'm okay with it.
When I was working, I got a new fleet car about every 2 years (Chevrolet or Ford). 90% of these were delivered with the fuel needle hovering just above the E.
I've purchased 9 brand new cars since about 1992, 1 Mitsubishi, 1 Nissan, 2 Dodges, and 5 Jeeps. All had full tanks at delivery. I've had some used cars over the years too, don't really recall those but if I remember correctly they had whatever fuel was in them when I looked at them/test drove them. Funny thing is probably more then half of the vehicles I've traded in were close to E or had the low fuel light on at time of trade. haha
