I stayed in 4-lo but maybe I didn't need to?

how fast could you go in 4-LO, i think that gearing is too low to travel quickly. couldn't sustained high mph eventually do damage?

When I had my JGC on the beach in NC during vacation in 2014, I just selected "sand mode" and aired down. No 4-Lo. 'Had a great time.

Check out Chief Products. They make a few skid plates that you can't get anywhere else. It's a bit pricey when you have to ship them here to the US but I believe they are planning on opening up a warehouse here to help with that. Good luck!

I wish there was a drivable beach near Chula Vista. We'll be there next week but it's too far to drive to Pismo

I have only lived in the SD area for about six months but I think you are correct about the drivable beach thing. The good news is Ocotillo Wells and Glamis are both only about 2 hours away if you want to play in the sand. Also, Anza Borrego has some cool trails and is only about 1-1/2 hours away.

Thanks for the tip! I'll take a look at those.

Lower your tyre pressures, keep it in hi range and sand mode.
Remember to turn sand mode back on if you turn off the Jeep.

I agree, the Scrambler is fine around town, but I wouldn't want to do a 5 hour highway drive like I just completed in the JGC.

I'm happy to hear that and mine will be the same after it serves commuting duty for a few years. Sounds like you have some great plans! I'm jealous.

Got a link? I quickly searched but did not find.

ETA: Disregard - I found them. Thanks for the tip, I'm checking them out.

Re: Fun on the sand dunes at Pismo Beach, & front skid plate thrashed

Hi Echotango,
I got my protection here :
Mopar Genuine Jeep Parts & Accessories Jeep Grand Cherokee Hitches, Racks & Off-Road Accessories Accessories: 2011-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK Mopar Accessories

Just scroll down a little bit and you'll see they have 3 options, fuel tanks, transfer case and front axle.

They fit right in, no need for holes or anything, in my case I got the 3 of them, I'd rather be on the safe side since I take my Jeep to different off road trips.
Rgds.
