Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

I I totally disagree with this review. Truck of the year??? They have got to be kidding!!! Truck my foot!!! The FE is just a crossover now-not a real 4x4. I saw one today at the Philadelphia car show, sat in it and promptly left. There is no comparing the FE to the GC. The GC wins hands down!!!! Even my '96 GC was better than that FE. The interior was not as nice as the GC, the seats were not as comfortable as the GC, I LOVE the styling of the GC, all of the features it offers- I could go on and on. It makes a real statement. Ford can keep its E. There is nothing like a Jeep!!!! I have always called other SUVs, "Jeep wanna bes."

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

I just sat in both the 2011 WK2 and the 2011 Explorer. Needless to say the Ford Explorer is a Soccermom Vehicle. When I sat inside the Explorer, it has this HUGE dashboard that's a waste. It feels like your driving a Van. Shesh! The outside looks hideous! Doesn't even look like an SUV. It's a Crossover. The inside is pretty big, but it doesn't get my attention. It has the off-road selection, but it's 4X4 sucks. It only has the speedometer, no RPM Gauge. It's very basic in the inside and I was sitting inside a fully loaded one. It doesn't have a sporty look. It has the "Future" look. The way the top of the lights wrap around the fenders make it even worse.

I'd rather own a WK2. JMO

How true! Reminds me of the old slogan for the XJ: "Only a Jeep is a Jeep"

Completely agree with your comments on the Explorer. We drove two and were hugely disappointed, and even the Ford salesman grumbled about it. It's suited to people who need a minivan but don't want to be seen in one because its uncool. Ford already has two other crossovers for that market, as the salesman pointed out.

But what "review"? There's no attribution/credit to any publication, so it's almost certainly not a genuine review. Rather, it comes off as the brainchild of Ford PR inhouse or its agency. If so, it's a cheap shot.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

"Both vehicles share a number of important safety features including reinforced body structures and door beams, anti-theft systems and child safety locks. Ford adds an available keyless entry pad, a rearview camera, rain-sensing wipers and the six standard airbags of the Safety Canopy™, as well as a number of new industry-firsts: Ford’s standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® is the only electronic stability control system in the industry to utilize twin gyroscopes to help maintain balance around curves. The newest Explorer is also the first vehicle in the world to feature available inflatable rear safety belts, which reduce pressure and help keep rear occupants (particularly children) firmly in place in the event of a frontal collision. A blind spot warning system, adaptive cruise control and an SOS Post-Crash Alert System™ are also available on the newest Explorer, and missing from the Grand Cherokee."

Wierd. My Grand has keyless entry and start, rear camera, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot warning, front collision warning, adaptive cruise control.... According to Ford, that is not possible....

They will sell very well where I am because of the 3rd row (baby booming town). The only other cross over ford offers with a 3rd row is the flex and they are ugly but most of all the seats are hideous. I just do not understand if you need a 3rd row why not get a minivan? It is so much easier to get in and out with a sliding door.

I read the Automobile Mag review. They like the GC over the Ford execpt for being a "suburban family" hauler. They said the Ford had the advantage of a 3rd row seat. If you want a 3rd row get the new Durango. Anyway the funny part was that they wanted to go off-roading, found a great trail outside of Sedona but decided that the Ford should not even try it so they just took the GC out for some fun. Keep in mind that these were both V6 "Limiteds". No, QL and they did not even bother taking off the front air-dam

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

forgive me but the inside looks a lot like the gc (as far as layout). it even has a select traction mode with down hill assist. the outside is horrible. the front is even worse.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

Regarding the measurement geniuses at Ford and how large/wide/tall they make some of their "SUVs".....just reminded me of the Excursion (a.k.a. "Canyon-ero" for you Simpsons fans ) and how it was too large for the average American garage. Nobody that owned these behemoths could even fit them into their garages!

As for brand identity/awareness, Ford does extremely well in this country BUT......Jeep is THE single highest rated car company in terms of brand loyalty in the USA.
