Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

No apologies! This is a better article to follow b/c they added an Overland to their Four Seasons fleet.. they typically put around 30k on a f/s vehicle within the year and the Jeep's true colors should show over time.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

If Ford was so sure about their explorer then they wouldn't offer the horrible 3yr/36000m powertrain warranty. They would offer the 5y/100000m like every other truck in its class. If they cant stand by their own product, I certainly won't.

Looks at all the known issues I surely wouldn't own one. Only being on the road for a little over a month and 12 known issues:

IF CODES RETURN, BYPASS C139 FOR CIRCUITS VDB04 AND VDB05 USING THE SOLDER AND SHRINK TUBING METHOD FOUND IN SECTION 5 OF THE WIRING DIAGRAMS. THE CONCERN MAY BE INTERMITTENT AND ASSOCIATED WITH SPREAD TERMINALS AT PINS 24 AND 25.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

This was one of my wife's potentials and here's my take.

You can get an Overland Summit w/ORA II, HEMI, DVD, Chrome Group and engine block heater for $51.5K and have a very capable off-road vehicle with a V8 to haul the load with no issues.

You can get an Explorer Limited w/302A, and everything else to try and bring it to GC spec at $49.3K but falls short with only a single 4WD system that could almost fall into AWD territory had it not been for the "TMS", and no option for a much needed V8. Have fun hauling those extra little passengrs in the third row and losing cargo space with a 2T+ vehicle. A V8 option with the extra seats was a no brainer-combo but they failed with trying to hug some trees.

The inside of the Explorer looks cheap without touching the plastics. When you do touch it then it becomes clear they cut corners along with fit and finish issues. Even their "high-end" sony system (can that even be said in the same sentence?) Looks shiny and cheap. I wasn't impressed with their system.

Their rear DVD placement is much better than Jeep's stupid center position that blocks the rear view while operational. I couldn't find any Explorers with that option to test it and see the quality. The only other thing I liked in this vehicle is the front 3/4ish appearance except for the poorly chosen black plastics used.

Talk about poorly chosen cheap $2 black plastic, look at the hood of a GT500. That's a complete deal breaker for me and off topic here.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

They have an answer for all of those needs, it is called an expedition. I do not see why people are complaining about the explorer not having a V8 if you need that 3rd row, towing, 4x4 low, V8, and room for gear you need a FULL SIZE.

Re: FYI - Ford Explorer vs. GC review

Did you guys notice that Vehix named the Exploder "Suv of the Year"? Turns out they didn't even test the GC as part of their SUV of the Year process and when you go to their page for the GC the quality ratings and such are based on the 2010 (YECH)....

Even Consumer Reports will give you a "Model too new to rate" on something as new as the GC.

Sheesh!

Sheesh!

Both models were redesigned for 2011 and the Grand Cherokee has been available for about 8 months. The Explorer? January?

Too bad I was too late on this 4x4 bid!
