Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

I got out of an SRT8 Jeep and a V6 FJ Cruiser for the Hemi WK2, so far I am happy with it, more than enough power and gas mileage is better than my V6 FJ and much better than the SRT8. I don't usually get on it much, part of the reason I won't get another SRT8, not enough utility for me to go off road if needed.

There's a TSB for the crappy shift points???? I didn't hear about that. I've been waiting for that, I’ve been doing a lot of manual shifting to get around it.
I have a Oct. 2010 3.6L that needs it bad. When did they start notifying about that one?

I think it recommends 89 octane if mine ever get here.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Two questions:

1) What is a TSB??

2) How do I know if my jeep has had this upgrade? I bought it used with 8,000 miles, but I know the original owner bought it in August 2010, so I am wondering if I can tell if he/she had it upgraded. Thanks.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

They do not notify about most TSBs, since they are not directly safety related like a recall (even if you can argue that vehicle performance is a safety issue).

Anyway, here are several links about two TSBs for V6 performance you should know about:

ESC:
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=17337

TCM/PCM, many threads cover this ground:
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=16680
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php...364#post366364
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=19471
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php...755#post400755
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=21259

There's lots to review there, about member experiences and some advice on how to best approach a dealer to get the TSB implemented.

Generally, to monitor TSBs yourself, head over to the WK2Jeeps.com site:

Thanks Cheroedude. Was able to use one of the threads. I had a sticker inside my engine compartment indicating my Jeep had some sort of an authorized software update.

A general sticker is attached to the engine computer at time of assembly, which does not necessarily mean that any particular TSB has been applied.

If you are in doubt, after reading the TSBs and the symptoms listed there, you can email the last 8 digits of your VIN to Milous to ask if he can check if TSBs have already been applied.

Technical Service Bulletin
When a manufacturer discovers a solution to a vehicle problem/complaint/issue that has a particular frequency and no known solution, a TSB is issued for the dealer service network once a valid solution is discovered. A TSB is created by the manufacturer after someone (an engineer, a dealer tech, etc.) finds a viable solution and notifies the manufacturer central office who then analyzes the claimed solution with appropriate engineering and executive-level input. If the proposed solution is indeed effective, an official TSB is placed on the communication network so dealer techs can see it when searching for a solution to the related problem. Not all vehicles necessarily require work under a TSB and a vehicle is usually not worked on for published TSBs without a customer making a specific complaint that has a corresponding TSB.

Your dealer can determine this for you. The manufacturer also can look at detailed warranty history of your vehicle and if any noted TSBs applied. Some manufacturers will share some warranty repair information with you and some will not. At one time in my varied career I handled vehicle warranty claims and am only touching the surface here of what they know about your vehicle history.

On Topic: Gas prices V6 vs V8 have no impact on me as the numbers are too close in real world driving to matter.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Even with V6 I am not driving as much these days or using my infiniti as much as I can. 7 speed transmission and lighter car makes difference even with larger and more powerful engine as on G37. If it will go same direction (up in price) I might go and buy something lighter, I need to go work somehow. I love Jeep but sorry, can't pay as much for gas.
I wish we have diesel option, it is better mpg and even with high cost it would be better than gasoline. Good tip: use Costco, normally 20 cents per gallon cheaper and seem OK gas on quality.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

My wife has (her 2nd) a 2010 Infiniti G37x Sport. Love the car, we use that for the longer trips. Decent gas mileage in the 20s. Much better than the Hemi.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

I will say if the price of gas goes up to $6 a gallon, we certainly will have more issues to worry about than what vehicle we are driving.
