I wish we have diesel option, it is better mpg and even with high cost it would be better than gasoline. Good tip: use Costco, normally 20 cents per gallon cheaper and seem OK gas on quality.
you have an Infiniti and a GC and have trouble paying for the gas???

I could care less about gas prices. I like the sound and power of the Hemi and don't mind paying for it.

There's a way to turn $6 lemons into some profitable lemonade. WK2 sales would no doubt drop should gas rise to $6/gal. This means more room to haggle and less time to wait while hordes of other buyers stampede to econoboxes they'll later regret.

It's a fact of life: after gas prices go up, they go back down -- and the higher they go, the steeper the drop. Always have, probably always will, notwithstanding the tireless price-hiking efforts of OPEC and our current Commander-in-Chief.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

I have the hemi now (2008 JGC) and really wanted another in my 2011. I did some quick math and at $1.40 a litre, $6.30 CDN a gal. ($5 per US Gal.) it would only cost me approximately $1,000 more a year (this was acceptable). However, Chrysler doesn't offer leasing in Canada anymore and was concerned about the resale value of a V8, in 3-5 years, if the gas prices keep going up. So, went with the V6. Still not sure I made the right decision.

By the way, does altitude still effect performance with electronic fuel injection? I didn't think it did???

P.S. Ansel Adams is a great photographer! I'm sure his workshops where impressive. Can you post or PM me a link to some of your photos?

Without forced induction of some sort altitude will always affect power. Simple physics. Picture the performance of your vehicle at 18,000 feet where there is essentially half the air. It isn't going to be as good because there is not as much oxygen.

All depends on millage you need to drive. I need about 100 miles a day, summer time and week end trips will require more gas. Jeep sucks lot even on v6, we all should look on what people driving in Europe with $8 per gallon price. Mopeds, bikes, smarts, golfs (biggest).

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Thank you for the information and thoughts.
Are the electronic wheel controls as effective as a limited slip dif in real world use?
Some people and some magazine articles say they are.
However, a couple of magazines say the limited slip is more effective especially on rocks.
Which is correct?
It is not unusual for me to drive 30,000 miles a year. Hence the interest in operating costs. However, time and getting the job done are also considerations.
The manager of a dealer body shop and an avid off-roader says the 18 tires are better for off-road since they have better flex.
Currently my plans are to order a 2012 as soon as possible, hopefully first week in June with a delivery in Aug/Sep. Depends on information being available, dealers willing to accept orders, and dealer willing to accept Thread Lightly discounts or USAA Buying Service, etc.
Current preferences are:
4x4 Overland
Hemi
Off road Adventure 2
735 RHR Radio
Colors are suppose to change for 2012 MY. Using 2011 colors, like Inferno Red with silver being a close second.
Black interior
Could not be this far along without help from the Board. Thanks.

See this link:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_colors.htm and scroll down to see list of projected 2012 colors. Inferno Red is no longer listed. Molten Red is, which looks similar to Infernor Red in the pictures of the new SRT8, at least to me it looks to be a similar red.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Thanks for the information!

Do any current vehicles have the new colors?

By my understanding, order books for 2012 GC open first week in June.

These GC reach dealers Aug/Sep.

It would be nice to see these new colors before my first GC is ordered.

Have a great weekend.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Thinking about it, I can probably use the Sherwin Williams paint codes and go by a Sherwin Williams store to get a feel for the new colors.

Thanks

Looks like 6 bucks a gallon didn't happen!

Good thing considering I've got a nice road trip coming up.

As for mpg's. I'm driving about 50-60 miles a day, when I fill up the jeep tells me I'll get about 420+ miles out of a tank. The hemi is getting about 20 mpg's. Crazy but true, Not bad in my opinion. To me, I wouldn't want to downgrade to a v6 just to gain 2 mpg's.

And to the redneck who would knock the guy, no matter what he drives, for driving less due to higher gas prices, wow, talk about classy. Hard times like that haven't hit me, and won't, but damn, people like you are what's wrong with the world today. Seriously.

Re: Gas price effect on V6 vs V8

Reality is that if we hit 6 bucks a gallon, we will have much more to worry about...if I pay 45k for a car, then I am probably not worried about fuel prices......if one is worried about how much fuel is, then one should buy a Prius....and not a 5k pound vehicle...
