Re: GC Diesel vs. V6 vs. V8 vs. Touareg TDI

Between the debate V6, V8, and CRD debate, motortrend has posted the first review of the CRD. 0-60 is .04 second slower than the V6 8 speed. It is NOT going to be hemi performance numbers, but that is not what it was designed to do.

LOL. You just contradicted yourself. Again, quit acting like you know what you're talking about and read the post just before of someone who has test drove all 3.

Edmunds has the 2013 GC V6 4X4 at 8.7 and the 2014 V6 8speed estimated at 8.2.

The Motor Trend article states that the CRD 0-60 is 7.8 seconds which is 0.4 seconds faster than 8.2. If it were 0.4 seconds slower then it would be 8.6 seconds.

Re: GC Diesel vs. V6 vs. V8 vs. Touareg TDI

Why would you judge an SUV by a 0-60 time?

I can fry any SUV in my E55 (4.2).

I am interested in the CRD for towing, range, and MPG (oh, and to fly by the Hemi guys in the mountain passes).

Good debate happening here, i'm dying for the crd to be released in the us so the doubters can see what i'm talking about, don't understand all the skepticism regarding the crd when no one has test driven it yet.

The V6 has a higher hp, and spins up to a couple thousand extra rpm, meaning it's going to be making more hp for longer, while the CRD will be in its "weak spot" the entirety of the run. The V6 is very much a top end motor, around town IMO it feels sluggish, the CRD is very much the opposite, a low end torque engine that will feel effortless around town, but will fall behind when asked to deliver performance.

No doubt about it, the CRD will drive better than the V6. It'll probably drive almost as good as the V8. But performance wise, it's not going to come close to the V8. It's a simple relationship between the numbers and how little powerband the CRD has.

Something to think about, the CRD's torque is all down low, it drops off after 2800 rpm. When was the last time you stomped on the loud pedal and the vehicle dropped down to 2800rpm? Probably just about never. It'll kick down to 3300rpm or so at least, already out of the CRD's powerband. So when you do really want that performance, it will be dropping off its power output.

IMO, the biggest failure of the CRD is its pricing. If it were priced equal or under the V8, it'd make sense. But as it sits, it doesn't win any points for economy because it costs so much more, and it's not a performance winner either.

...don´t worry about the RPM. The 8 speed works perfectly with a diesel engine. In the touareg V6 diesel, the shifting points are about 1800 to 2000 RPM if not forced.
At 120mph, the engine revs 3000 rpm. Due to the variable torque almost constant between 1800 and 2700 rpm, yo´ll never experience a lack of power, remember: it´s a turbo Engine!
For the pricing, thats a marketing issue...

Happy Day

Achim
