GC Limited Vs Overland

New member from Mass. here - I'll be saying goodbye to my beloved 2000 Sahara next Spring and am looking at the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited or Overland. What are the main differences there? For the limited I was already thinking of getting the Luxury II package and the Advanced Technology group(though I can live without Blis etc) - so does it come down to the 20 inch wheels and the 2-toned seating colors with ventilated seats and that's about it (assuming I got the Luxury II on the limited).
Is it really worth paying up for the Overland, or just go with the Limited and the Lux II?

Really want the Trailhawk, but there is no option of ventilated seats in that trim. Anxious to hear official mpg for the 3.2. I've read 22/29 and that's pretty good and close enough to the I4 hwy mileage of 31 for me.

If you get the 20's on the Limited w/ Lux II then you might as well get the Overland. In the 2014 Ordering thread, there are some PDF files that show the differences between the models. That might be easier to show the differences

I guess I'm skeptic on the 22/29 for the 3.2 . Until the release the numbers on it, it is any ones guess..

If you do not want the quadra lift suspension then get the Limited without the off road adventure II package (ORA-I does not have quadra lift if you are interested in the tow hooks and skid plates). If you want quadra lift then get the overland. A lot easier to find and get a good deal on at a dealership.

Re: GC Limited Vs Overland

So test drove the Overland yesterday - was expecting to be blown away by the luxury, but not so much - my wife has the a Volvo Xc-90, which seemed a lot more hi-end for the same price.
Not put off though.
Can someone explain to me how the paddle shifter's work? My wrangler is a stick and even with that I was confused. Sales guy was saying something like if you finish in say 8th and don't switch back to drive, you will start in 8th next time you start the car and blow out the transmission - I'm sure it's something I'd get used to - but just looking to hear from folks who use them. If there is a thread explaining it happy to go there too.
Also - is there a way to get less chrome?

Moran is too kind of a word for that dealer. Why didn't you just take it out for a test drive and check it out yourself?

Re: GC Limited Vs Overland

paddles allow you to shift how you want.. but its not a dumb car, its not going to let you start in 8th gear lol. If you want to race someone, pop the shifter back once to go into sport mode (auto) works great... but if you are, say going up a long hill and just want it to kick down a gear, hit the "-" shifter. To return to regular drive, press the "+" for about 2 seconds.

Re: GC Limited Vs Overland

The biggest difference I would say between the limited and the overland is that the black unpainted plastic on the limited is painted on the overland and that was enough for me to make my decision.

We all know that black plastic eventually fades to Gray
and I wouldn't want to deal with putting protectant on it when you can just get the overland and forget about having to dress all that trim.

That's just my opinion though.

On the other side of the coin, some people (like myself) perfer the unpainted plastic over the painted. As long as you don't get any liquid/paste wax on it, it will stay black for a long time.

The unpainted plastic doesn't get damaged/sand blasted as easy as the painted plastic, and it's way cheaper to replace in the case of an accident. A true "Do it Yourself" job since there's no painting envolved.

Overall I still believe the Limited gives you the most for your money. The only things I ordered additionally on my V6 Limited were the 20" wheels, 8.4A radio, trailer/Tow pkg, and powered sunroof...and I was STILL under $40,000.

I do wish though that Jeep offered the HID lights "A la carte" instead of bundling it into a $4000 package. I would have opted for those brighter lights as well.

You do get ventilated seats with LuxII.

I ended up choosing a limited, Lux2, OA2, and the upgraded 8.4AN. Not sure if Nav comes with adv tech package you are looking at.

Anyway, with my build, I missed out on:

Wood on steering wheel
Interior color choices
puddle lights under mirrors
auto dimming passenger mirror.
and the exterior extra chorme, painted bits.

I did get an extra $2300 in my pocket...

As others have said, you will not find a loaded limited on a lot, you'll have to order it. So if you want it fast, overland it is.
