Those were the days before auto A/C was common, so all of the windows were open anyway. The faster we went, the cooler it got in the car.

OT but yes my parents didn't get a car with a/c till they bought a new 1971 Buick Centurion. Didn't think they needed it until it was above 90 degrees. Boy, those were the days.

The flipper glass is great when I've got my bike rack back there and I don't feel like breaking it down to open the whole gate.

That's a really good point and may also apply with certain towing situations.

I showed the filpper-flipping operation to "the boss" and the "younger boss" this evening. They both said "wow" and "kewel".

Re: GC Love/Hate

flipper glass is awesome - people use it for quick in/out. it was great for my dog to stick his head out.

Re: GC Love/Hate

Am I missing something special about the flipper glass?

My Explorer had it, my Liberty did, my parent's Escape has it. What SUV doesn't?

I'd say that majority SUVs do not have it. I know lexus, Benz, audi, acura, VW, and the new explorer, and almost all crossovers do not have a flipper glass. Even the Durango does not have a flipper window. Toyota has the powered rear glass and the X5 has a flipper, but today, not too many others have this option.

Re: GC Love/Hate

I was at a dealer the other day and the salesman told me that only the Overland had flip glass on the 12's and 13's.

I went to another dealer and the 15 or 20 Laredos all had little stickers on the tailgate pointing to the flip glass release.

The salesman there told me the interior trim on the Overland was plastic, not wood.

That's when I decided I better find a Jeep forum while I have a few months before ordering a '14.

Re: GC Love/Hate

My biggest complaint in 'the WK is the passenger's cup holder. WTF were they thinking? So did they fix that in the WK2?

And flipper glass comes under the "u" IN SUV. Try accessing the cargo area with an 18' canoe on the roof. You'll appreciate it then.
