Re: GC Love/Hate

My favorite parts of the Jeep are the hill assist (staying put while taking my foot off the brake is a HUGE plus in a city with a billion hills), the button on the rear hatch is my most favorite feature being able to lock all the doors from the back, the quietness of the cabin while driving (except for the stupid rattle in the glove box that the dealer can't fix), and the interior (I have a Summit). Oh, can't forget all the areas to store things too, especially next to the spare tire. I can't use the one under the seats since they're used for the car's electronics.

I do use the flipper glass quite often when it's packed with stuff or when I want to take something out of the back without announcing to the world what I have stashed back there.

Things I hate are the rattling glove box and the RHR radio. I wish (and hope) I can throw in the upcoming 2014 8" radio. I'd buy it in a second to get rid of Sirius and use HD radio. There's a local channel that's so good I listen to it exclusively at home when listening to music.

The tailgate setup on the X5 is ridiculous. The top 3/4 (glass and liftgate)lifts up and then the bottom part tilts down (manually) with a narrow tailgate. That lower tailgate thing gets in the way when you are trying to load stuff in the cargo and are hindered by the tailgate thing being in the way of trying to push things forward into the cargo area. Useless setup to me. I like a regular 1 piece liftgate just like the GC gas always had.

The split gate is genius. It allows for a lower loading floor, which is great for a variety of things. For me, it allows a lower place for the dog to jump into the back of the SUV. He can't jump into the back of the Jeep unless it's in park and he's got a curb/sidewalk to give him some extra height.

Our Outlander has the same setup. It was one of the big reasons we bought it.

I've owned all three combinations....

My 1991 XJ has just a hatch...

My 2005 Land Cruiser had a split-gate with flip glass...

My 2010 Grand Cherokee SRT had a hatch with a flip glass...

The Toyota split-gate is worthless for every reason you noted above. I thought would like it but found $65K later it was awkward to load and really not usable. The only thing I liked was I could sit on it and pretend I got my monies worth.

Doesn't make sense... lower loading floor? The rear split-tailgate typically when lowered is at the same level has the rear cargo area.

Re: GC Love/Hate

The park brake is made according the "Mercedes old school"
Now is commom the electric park brake
The advantage of electric park brake is that can also atomatically stop the car if a door is open.
It also can be engaged automatically as we go park mode, dis-engage automatically as we go D or R.

I hate parking brakes for this reason. Would love it automated.

Really? My 190E had a parking brake handle I pulled on.
